Today we’d like to introduce you to Chapelle Nichole
Hi Chapelle, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Hello everyone, who may not know but my name is Chapelle Nichole. I am originally from Illinois, born in Springfield and raised in Springfield and Chicago. Both of my parents are from Chicago. I was raised by my mother in my grandmother‘s house so I was Grandma’s baby. I’m the oldest out of two from my mother, and I am the fourth oldest out of 12 from my father. I’ve always loved the craft of acting from early childhood. As a kid, I would always reenact things I saw on television or in life and would magnify it and make it funny because I would love to make people laugh. Growing up in school I was too ashamed to join theater or anything like that out of fear that I would get teased by my peers. I remember being very young and auditioning for very popular TV Sitcom and them wanting me for the role but That wasn’t my time, I took a different journey.
I got started in the craft of acting when I was a little girl. I even did some modeling for my hometowns bridal week, dressed up as a flower girl. I can remember always making people laugh and reenacting different things that I would see and hear on television and in movies. I wanted to join theater at a young age, but I was afraid that I would get mocked by my peers, so I just watched from afar. I would do little things here and there at school and at church, but that would be just as far as it would go.
In my late teens early 20s, I found myself in a domestic violence situation which shattered and rock my world to pieces. Out of that, I created a beautiful son who was more than what I needed. There’s more about my story of surviving domestic violence on my YouTube. I relocated to Las Vegas and decided to start my life over. In my mid 20s I had another son and my life was complete.
As I entered my early mid-20s, the bug hit me again and I started expressing my love and interest in the craft of acting. I talked to a friend or two and a few family members about my decision, and I started to take Acting classes. I really love acting classes. They brought out things in me that I didn’t know I could reach. If you are serious about getting into acting, I would suggest you take at least one class and see how you feel about it and let it guide you.
From there, I ended up relocating to Atlanta, Georgia, and things have been great acting wise ever since, other than those small bumps in the road which are big inconveniences, but needed. I can’t wait to show the rest of the world my love for acting and how great I can become, this is just the beginning!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
To say the least, absolutely not. There have been a lot of smooth roads and a lot of bumpy ones too, as with anything the smooth roads are very fulfilling, full of promise and eager to see what will come next. But those bumpy roads can really make you second-guess what you’re really doing and is all of this worth it. I’ve had to face betrayal by loved one’s, homelessness, false hope and a slew of other things. I’ll just say this, I wouldn’t trade this for anything in this world. I am in love with the craft it is a part of me. It’s one of the only things that make me happy. Stay focused stay grounded and remember what you’re doing this for …you! Acting full-time while working a full-time job along with being a parent can have its own sets of challenges. I am literally a team of 1 so things can get pretty overwhelming at times. I am learning now that it really takes a village to make those milestone accomplishments, I just have to build a strong foundation and the heights are limitless. I am hungry to work, eager to put my all into my love but due to some life challenges it makes it a lot harder. Those times only make me stronger and my motivation blow through the roof.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Well, I started professionally acting in my mid to late 20s. I signed up for some acting classes. Did research on the craft, ordered tons of books, watched videos and put my complete focus on acting.
Shortly after my classes ended, an old friend of mine reached out and stated that they got a part in a movie with a director from Atlanta Georgia and wanted to know if I wanted to join them on set just to be part of the environment. Of course, I said yes, and I also had a friend with me at home who wanted to go! I wasn’t sure at first because I didn’t want to invite a guest and I was a guest, but they let me know that they were needing one other Girl for a role so, I brought my friend along with me because she seemed to fit the role, and I finally convinced her to be a part of the production. While production was going on me and the Director had a conversation about acting, and he decided to add me to the film at the last minute, which was one of the most amazing experiences I’ve ever had thank you so much T. Miles.
Within a month of playing my first role ever on film, I heard on the radio about a black gospel play that was looking to fill roles for this stage play. I heard that it was written by Francis Hall and directed by Antonio Fargas. I was one of the last people on the last day to audition and I was chosen to play the understudy for five different roles. One day I was at lunch with my boss and colleagues and got a call from Mr. Antonio Fargas himself offering me one of the lead roles in the play instead of an understudy. To say I was ecstatic would be an understatement. I went on to do that show for 4+ years. I even got the chance to play another role inside of the same story if you know what I mean.
I decided that I needed more out of my career, so I relocated to Atlanta Georgia. I gave up everything I knew and jumped out on faith. Since then, I’ve been featured in a few articles as well as done five movies. I’m actually shooting another movie this October 2024 I can’t wait for that. This one is called, “Living In The Cemetery”, it’s written and directed by Kenny OD, I play a Lead Investigator, I can’t wait.
So far Ive done some background work, played a 65 year old grandmother (after just turning 30), an alcoholic baby sister who is a top chef, a mother in distress, a few doctors and now a police officer, I can’t wait to see how far I can push myself.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I would like to give thanks to the man who gave me my first shot in the business, Terry “T” Miles. Thank you for having faith in me and we had just met. Special thank you to Frances Hall, Antonio Fargas and Dianna Saffold-Cooks who gave me my first shot at a lead role on stage. Also, Torrey Russell, Andrew Mays and Kenny OD for believing in me and pushing my limits and growth. You all have helped create magic when it coming my performance and I am forever grateful. I can’t forget my support system my children, closest friends, family and loved ones. I have too many to name everyone but you know my heart. My youngest son has even caught the bug and is now writing, directing, producing and acting in his own mini-series on Youtube at Spazz101 @spazzy_boi. He is so creative, I am so proud of the little person he has grown to be, I can’t wait to see who he becomes. Make sure you check out both of our Youtube’s.
