Today we’d like to introduce you to Christie Hall
Hi Christie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I love to create! It’s my passion. I have always had a love/hate relationship with my hair. I have a skin condition on my scalp called Psoriasis. I had to find oil blends that could help and not aggravate my scalp and natural hair. Many of the items sold in stores caused my scalp to itch and be sore. So I researched natural oils for probably about a year and their capabilities, discussed it with my beautician, and began making my own hair care oils. I tried several of my blends on myself and my friends. My brother noticed me making oils he asked if I could make something for his beard and the beard oil was actually the first product that I made to sell. So Elysian Oil Bar was born and I’ve been making and selling products ever since.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I consider my business to be new still. With the exception of a few shipping hiccups during this pandemic my business has been going great. I also think that the black community as a whole has started supporting each other more and I am achieving my business goals because of that support.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I create custom oil blends for hair, scalp, body, and beard. The hair oil is my most popular product and it’s not just for natural hair. It can be applied to locs and even relaxed hair. Our hair is our strength and our skin is an extension of us. It’s so important to me that I can help people achieve their skin/hair care goals. It means the most to me when I receive a message telling me that a client is so much happier since using my products. Not being happy with your hair can really have an effect on your self-esteem and I want to make people feel better about themselves. I always say I’m not a doctor but I’m here to help. At the end of the day that’s what makes me the most proud, knowing I helped. The thing that sets me apart from other self-care oils that you can buy at any store is the customization. If a client tells me about a specific concern they have, then I can customize something specific to them. That’s in addition to the regular products I sell. How do you think about luck?
I’m not a person that believes in luck. I have a wonderful support system and I have people praying for me and my success on a regular basis. Many nights I prayed for this business before I even knew what I was going to name it. So I always thank God for my business even on days I don’t reach a goal. Those are the days I thank Him the most.
