Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina Carpenter
Hi Christina, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I woke up from surgery. My cousin was present after I woke up from anesthesia and said, “Cousin you had 17 fibroids taken out! And oh yeah, your appendix was mush and they removed that too!” I didn’t want to talk about my story. I didn’t want people to know the pain and problems that I faced daily with stage 4 endometriosis and fibroids. However, after this surgery, I knew I had to speak up. I couldn’t be the only one faking about being fine. At that moment “I’m Just Fine” Podcast was born.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Absolutely NOT! Living with gynecological chronic illnesses is one of the most difficult experiences a woman can face. The symptoms and psychological burden makes it very difficult to live with endometriosis and fibroids. Knowing that one day they may return even after they are cut out and even worse knowing what they do to your gynecological organs especially if you have not conceived children yet.
Regarding starting a podcast, extremely difficult, especially because I am so used to keeping to myself. Being vulnerable with the world is tremendously hard!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a clinical research manager. I work in rare diseases and I truly enjoy it because the research that I do may potentially give a medical option to someone that has no options. I cannot specifically discuss the research projects I am on due to NDAs and confidentiality agreements.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I read a lot of research articles and listen to podcasts about endometriosis and fibroids. I also occasionally read my Bible.
