Today we’d like to introduce you to Christine Baines and Renita White.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
We are two sisters who grew up in Kennesaw, Georgia. We are 18 months apart and our lives have mirrored each other, even into adulthood. We became pregnant at the same time in both our pregnancies. We now each have two young boys, ages 1 and 3. As working women and new mothers-to-be, we were eager to find a community of other women entering motherhood. We also have our own expertise within our respective careers. Renita is a board-certified OB/GYN in Atlanta. Christine is a non-profit professional and entrepreneur with a background in early childhood education. She is also the owner of Twinkle Toes Nanny Agency Northeast Atlanta.
Our experiences in our pregnancy inspired us to find a community of other mothers having similar challenges and experiences we were having. We also wanted to provide inspiration and education to women about topics on motherhood, pregnancy, and overall wellness from the lens of our experience and expertise from our careers. This inspired us to create our podcast, Cradle And All.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Being a working mother comes with many challenges. From managing household responsibilities to figuring out your child’s evolving developments, we both felt stretched thin and overwhelmed while simultaneously feeling like we were alone in these feelings. But talking to each other about our experiences highlighted that many mothers may have similar obstacles and not even realize it. We also felt it was important to build a community that shares the realities of motherhood, both good and bad, easy and hard.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Dr. Renita White, MD – I am a board-certified OB/GYN in Atlanta. My passion is to educate women about their bodies and empower them to advocate for their health and wellness needs. In particular, I love helping women feel comfortable and confident with taking ownership over their bodies and health needs. I have been married to my husband Bryson for six years, and we have two sons, Jackson and Russell. I love to educate on women’s health topics and help women balance life and wellness. When I am not working, I enjoy travel, trying new restaurants, and any things that sparkle. One of the things I love most about being an OBGYN is taking care of women in all stages of life. Whether entering adulthood or transitioning into menopause, wellness is always a key part of our health. So this podcast has been a great way to continue my goal of inspiring women to take autonomy of their wellness and focus on daily self-care practices when it comes to motherhood, career, and womanhood.
Christine Baines, M.Ed. – I am a business owner, former educator, and non-profit professional. I have dedicated my career to the service of children and families, and have experience catering to the unique needs of children and families. I have worked for several national and local non-profit organizations. In these roles, I have piloted, coordinated, and implemented programs, facilitated professional development and training across the country and have launched holistic change efforts while holding to my social justice and educational equity values. Currently, I lead professional development initiatives at National Court Appointed Special Advocates/Guardian Ad Litem Association for Children. I also own Twinkle Toes Nanny Agency Northeast Atlanta. My proudest role is wife and mother to my two boys Dallad and Dakota and fur babies Chloe and Percival.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
We all know the same saying “It takes a village to raise a child. So, we know the importance of having a village when it comes to motherhood. Building a community has been the biggest inspiration for our podcast. Social media can be a great way to connect with others, but it is often just a highlight reel of the best moments in a person’s life. We wanted to connect with others about many of the “real” aspects of motherhood – both good and bad. While there are times when being a mom can be entertaining and exciting, there are also moments of frustration and isolation. Our goal is to encourage other mothers and mothers-to-be about topics that may not always be openly discussed. We also hope to inspire other women to find balance and focus on self-care and wellness.
