Today we’d like to introduce you to Coral Mizrachi.
Hi Coral, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always wanted to be a performer. There is something is drama and acting that attracted me from a very young age. Even before I was able to identify it, it allowed me to express something more in me that I couldn’t do any other way. I started in theatre and worked from the young age of 13, and decided to go study in New York when I was 21. New York is such an amazing hub for creatives, and I was lucky enough to get into one of the biggest and oldest academy for the performing arts.
After graduating, I was lucky enough to take part in many projects and around the US, even during the pandemic. I remember it was a very productive time for me, with less distractions. I was very determined to be able to do what I love every day, and that’s what I did. It was magical really, and I got to work with amazingly creative and industry people.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely was not. I don’t let my sugar-coating nostalgic reminiscing fool you to think it was all sparks and glitter. I love my journey and am very grateful to where I am today, but there were plenty of obstacles along the way. In 2018, I injured my spine and had to undergo 2 surgeries. I still don’t feel the same, and I am maintaining my body every day to not have to repeat surgeries again. The pain was unbelievable, but it was nothing compared to the chemotherapy I had to go through after being diagnosed with cancer in 2020. I am still dealing with the side effects of chemo.
Even though I had a lot of medical obstacles, I still think the biggest learning curve I went through was with my craft. I started out trying to please everyone, thinking I am a vessel to the director’s vision and to think that if I am not perfect, I won’t get other jobs. But I learned through many experiences on set that as artists, we can have a voice, and with it, we can give something more to the project. When I let go of trying to please the people in charge and focused on storytelling, I was able to be a better actor, a better colleague, and I was happier.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an actress working in theatre, film and TV. I have worked with Comedy Central, with Ski-ter Jones, and with many other industry titans. I love what I do and I hope you keep doing it for as long as I can!
