Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Crocker.
Courtney, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Building and creating started when I was a child. I created cites for my little sister and I to play barbie all the time. We would literally have banks, restaurants, gas stations and all in our Barbie world. My mind has always been extremely creative. I had it in my mind at eight that I could build tree houses and by 11, I was planning my birthday party. I went to middle school and it honestly changed me. I started at McNair middle and eventually went to cedar grove middle, where I would meet my daughter’s father. It wasn’t until I was 15 when I gave birth to her and I also gave birth to a dream. My daughter reminded me of what being a child felt like and I began to create again. By her second birthday, I was building props and spending all my income taxes on her parties! I used my money every year to invest in more and more party equipment. I was never excited about college but it was something my parents wanted for me so I attended Georgia Perimeter and realized I could teach myself marketing and accounting. I always worked high-end customer service jobs so I was able to soak up a lot of knowledge and strategic processes. Building a business, being a mom, going to school and working seemed so overwhelming but I kept pushing through with the help of my amazing family. My business was named after My daughter in 2015, being named Londevor Decor. It meant London’s favors and decor. I was so excited about legalizing my business not knowing how much bigger than me it was. I changed the name to Prop House Party in 2020 to expand the brand and prepare for franchising. By 2022 I had invested 100k in the business making my rental company a foundation for many other event planners.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Being consistent and disciplined has been my toughest struggle. As a mother, I already juggle being a maid, chef, doctor, tutor, mentor and security guard so when I throw a business in the loop it definitely can slow things down. Building a strict routine for my everyday life has become extremely important. Making a plan and sticking to it whether it’s business or parenting, definitely keeps my household together. Everyday may not be filled with everything you want to do but prioritizing what you need to do and doing it will bring much success.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Prop Designing is our specialty here at Prop House Party. Customizing party props and setting a scene is what keeps our customers coming back. We bring the theme to life with our party decor. Also, offering all of the top of the line party rentals in one place gives our clients comfort in the planning process. The pandemic changed the way we party so we added more rentals that would give them an arcade experience at home.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I absolutely love my city. My city is full of growth and opportunity. Everything here is so accessible as long as you’re willing to go get it. A lot here is over-saturated but I love the challenge of being different and standing out. The only thing I would change is the traffic.
