Today we’d like to introduce you to Darius Thomas.
Hi Darius, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
My brand was born out of necessity. Simply put, I saw a vision for my life and how to connect my creativity and my mind. That’s where the idea originated.
When I realized how many talented people wouldn’t have a platform because they don’t follow the traditional routes, I knew I had to build something that not only gave opportunities but also provided a means for freedom.
That is was Darius Thomas Productions was founded on
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Big things take time, and, in that time, there will be trials that are meant to refine you and the process.
For me, I remember working a job to stack money for the company. When the contract ended, they said that I owed them $7,800 because there was a payment error for as long as I had been there.
That time taught me that also long as I put my faith in someone else to fund my vision, they will be able to take it away.
I worked that job to save because I wanted to get to where I saw faster. I found 1 key principle: On a long enough time horizon, you will be able to do everything you want to do.
So now I lean into patience.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Mainly, Darius Thomas Productions is in the live event space in the form of musical theatre.
Since that negative experience with that company, I’ve consolidated my process. I’ve enjoyed the trial and error.
Funding-wise, I might not have had enough to do a full musical, but that doesn’t mean that I stop moving.
I broke the elements of creation down to the individual pieces and found way to develop those skills.
For example, if I wanted to know how to light a scene for the stage, I would produce a short film and practice the storytelling with the lights
We love surprises, fun facts, and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
They might not know how much time I spend studying. Even in my chill/relax time I’m watching videos that will increase my understanding of concepts, and I plan my next steps forward
