Today we’d like to introduce you to Darryl Farley.
Darryl, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started my business during the pandemic after reading a bedtime story to my son. I noticed the majority of the books I was reading to him didn’t represent “us.” I decided that night I would write books that represented my family and my community. Since then, I have released two children’s books, I Will Be Here and Imara and the Kinara. I Will Be Here is dedicated to black fathers as a promise that they will always be in their children’s lives. Imara and the Kinara was written to help families learn and celebrate Kwanzaa.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It has been an up-and-down road of figuring out the business. I have been featured on the local news stations (WSBTV and 11 ALIIVE). I am currently working on promoting the business on a national level.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m an Educator and have been coaching football and baseball for nine years. I enjoy mentoring children and teaching different life skills. I like coaching sports because it teaches teamwork and overcoming obstacles. My proudest moments are when my student-athletes come back to visit me and tell me about the great things they’re doing. I live by the quote, “Aspire to Inspire before you Expire!” – Eugene Bell
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love that Atlanta is where all of my family and the majority of my friends reside. Being born and raised here, I wouldn’t want to call any other city home.
My least favorite thing about the city is the traffic. I’ll never get use to it!
