Rising Stars: Meet Dave Blessing

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dave Blessing.

Dave Blessing

Hi Dave, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started making music at age 19 as a hobby and decided to take the craft seriously at age 24. I spent three years studying and perfecting my craft before even putting out a song. I released my first song on youtube called “Lieutenant” on youtube last year. Lieutenant currently has almost 1 million views on Youtube right now. I am also working on an EP and I have other songs out.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I am an immigrant from Monrovia, Liberia. My family and I fled our country during 2006 because of a civil war in our country. We lost family members to the war. We got an asylum visa to come to America because of the war. We lived with my dad’s best friend for three years and got our clothes from the salvation army.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Liberian-American rapper named Dave Blessing. An upcoming artist with colorful lyricism and great energy. Great flow, real authentic, vulnerable lyrics and outstanding beat selection is what make me stand out from other artists. I am an artist who writes my own music and helps engineer my own music. I also produce my own music videos.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I believe music in 5-10 years will be even more experimental. Standardize musical structure will be challenged even more. Kids are going to experiment even more with different beats, flows, and ways of delivering their words on a beat. I believe new artists are going to mix different genres and sounds even more to stand out even more from their peers. I also believe electronic and psychedelic beats will become even more popular because of their futuristic sounds.
