Rising Stars: Meet David Moffett

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Moffett.

Hi David, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Good afternoon, my name is David Moffett, I am a prostate cancer survivor who has created a support group for men in the Metro Atlanta area. While my group welcomes men of all diverse backgrounds, I have successfully provided a space to men of color who need to hear the message about self-care, familial support, and seeking sufficient healthcare options. My strong passion is seeking the chance to reach more afflicted men within the African American community. My passion and mission are to bring attention, and a greater awareness to this terrible disease which I call the silent killer, which is impacting 1 out of 6 men across this country and worldwide. (Black & Brown men are being impacted at a higher rate). I would be truly thankful and grateful if I was selected for this article to be considered, and if it is to be published for your month of September with is Prostate Cancer Awareness month. I will also be hosting my first event. (Prostate Cancer Awareness Walk and Family event) on Saturday, September 11th, 2021. I will continue to be a voice, and advocate, and a champion for all men and their support systems that are impacted or will be impacted by this terrible disease, and their never alone!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
This journey has not been a smooth road, it’s a very hard process that not only attacks you physically but also spiritually & mentally as well. Starting a support group has made a such an impacting difference in the men and their families as well as myself! My beautiful wife and my family and doctor & nurse have be a great inspiration and blessing in my journey and healing process. But I know not every man has this experience or support.

I also work for one of the largest health care systems in Georgia and I believe they can do more to promote a greater awareness as well.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a combat veteran (US Marine Corps) and former law enforcement and security officer for Wellstar Health systems.from the intro is that I had to reschedule my Prostate Cancer Awareness Walk and family event to Saturday April 16th, 2022 because of the COVID-19 spike . Would also love if you guys had a representative attend as well. I’ve had a couple interview on local news media as well.

Like I mentioned in the previous slide I work for a health care system, I believe what sets me apart from others is my heart and compassion for others. I love to encourage and everyone in my workplace and carry a positive attitude. I also love to be a great team player and assist wherever I can. I was just awarded the Oprah Winfrey Award which was for the most outstanding overall employee, I was honored to be selected by my peers and leadership. Bust I’m most proud of starting this support group for men!

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I don’t believe in luck. I believe I was blessed or received a blessing, or it was a life lesson or teachable moment.

Each day God wakes me up I consider it His Grace and a blessing! That I have the opportunity to walk in my purpose and be a blessing to my family and friends, and those who cross my path. I’m cancer-free and loving the journey that my wife and I are on.
