Today we’d like to introduce you to Dawn Charleston-Green.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My name is Dawn Charleston-Green, the Founder and Creator of Dawn of a New Day 365 Life Blog & Creations.
Dawn of a New Day 365 is a movement for women journeying through everyday life – the good, bad, ugly, and unexpected; overcoming with TRUTH and TRANSPARENCY in a way that leads to TRANSFORMATION.
On the DND365 platform, I provide content and conversations around the experiences and challenges women often face. Through my writings and discussions, I share my own personal stories, as well as the testimonies of other women to help others know they are not alone in their journey. My goal is to connect women with experts, information, and resources that help them to navigate through normal or traumatic life experiences in a safe space that encourages them to give voice to those things that have traditionally forced them into silence, shame, or guilt.
DND365 was birthed after a very hurtful and disheartening experience that I had within my family and career that caused me to question some decisions I made along the way.
My family and I are an adoptive family who faced emotional, mental, and behavioral challenges with our adoptive daughter. Those challenges forced me to leave a career where I was very much so excelling, leading and making an impact both within and outside of my organization.
To separate from a field and position that I felt I had been called and purposed to do, as well as prided myself in, was beyond difficult. Based on my education, experience, and reputation, I felt that stepping away from what I so loved stripped me of part of my identity. However, it was after coming out of that dark place that I truly understood what my name meant.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Since launching Dawn of a New Day 365, I can say that I have been pretty consistent as a content creator. However, the content efforts change from time to time. Apart from my blogs, I have also become a published author. Speaking engagements, along with book tours and signings, at times pull me away from my initial intended work. I do my best to maintain balance, but I would be lying if I said it was easy.
The other challenge I face is Imposter Syndrome. As opportunities and exposure present themselves, the little voice inside starts saying, “You don’t belong here.” I truly have to tap into my support system to help me stay clear of this space. So far so good.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As I mentioned, apart from my blog, I am a two-time published author. First, I wrote a women’s devotional entitled, the 5-Day Morning C.O.F.F.E.E. Devotion. The acronym C.O.F.F.E.E. stand for Chicks of Faith, Focused, Encouraged & Empowered.
The 5-Day Morning C.O.F.F.E.E. Devotion was written to help Christian women develop or deepen their faith journey by providing lessons and conversations that will help fortify their desire to commune with God daily. The devotion provides both a method and message for submitting to this process.
I intentionally wrote the lessons in a very conversational way to help those who may be novices to faith or devotional time to not be so intimidated by the information being presented. It’s written in a way that is not only easy to consume and digest, but also easy to comprehend for practical life application.
Women have not only shared how much they enjoyed the devotion, but many of them have also gotten additional copies for friends and family.
My second writing project was surprisingly a children’s book. I say “surprisingly” because I never really intended to be a children’s book author. However, one day, after a difficult conversation with my daughter, I decided to turn one of my blogs (written to my women’s platform to acknowledge resiliency) into a story to promote the importance of childhood self-esteem. “Bloom Wherever You Grow, Dandelion!” became. . . “Heeeyy Dandelion!”
The story of Heeeyy Dandelion resonates with more than just children and families of adoption. I would like to think that by sharing my own family’s story I am giving a voice to those who haven’t known how to share their adoption story and the challenges they may have faced. But also, I hope to bring empathy and sensitivity to the subject of adoption.
I often tell people that “Heeeyy Dandelion is a children’s book because of its colorful illustrations and not because its message is elementary.”
For me, this space is a transparent and vulnerable place to be, but it is also the right place to be for me and my family to share our story and help others.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to me is helping others to heal, grow, and transform because of something that I said that made them want to put in the work to be better. Additionally, it also matters to me to be my authentic self and walk in my purpose for this season. I say “my purpose for this season” because I believe each season of purpose builds upon a GREATER PURPOSE, and the pinnacle of our purpose requires growth along the way.
