Today we’d like to introduce you to Delores Thornton
Hi Delores, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started my literary journey when I became an empty nester in 1996! I self published my debut novel titled Ida Mae. It went over so well that I toured the country doing book talks and author signings. A few years ago I ventured into the world of stage plays and finally feature and short films. I experienced overwhelming success in all areas and arenas.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been as easy road or perhaps I loved it so much I never became weary. Although I initially worked a 40 hour a week job and flew across the country on weekends.
At times I was tired but I pressed my way through. I was in love with my life. And, I continue to be heavily involved with the arts and culture of my city.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I spend most of my time giving back to my community. I work with Older Adults teaching Creative Writing in programs funded by the Indiana Arts Commission. I also work with children introducing them to the stage and the screen.
I recently became a Literary Consultant for a major organization here in Indy.
As a licensed, ordained minister I work with the Drama Ministry of my church the, Rock Missionary Baptist. Through this group I help organize and direct plays which are open to the public.
How do you define success?
Success is knowing you’ve done your best and understanding that heaven is pleased. Success for me has never been measured by material gain, but instead it’s a feeling of unspeakable joy when a project comes to fruition.
