Today we’d like to introduce you to Deshaun Warren.
Hi Deshaun, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started producing in 2014 while I was in high school. I got my first opportunities when I moved to Atlanta in order to go to Georgia state for college. I was in sessions at digital nas’ (Kanye’s producer) place with Playboi Carti, lil yachty, and trippie redd to name a few. I wasn’t working with them but I was around sort of like a fly on the wall, learning. I was working intensively with 404 will and Lexx nova during that time. We made albums and it ended up allowing me to work with mick Jenkins because Lexx nova had a song with him. I ended up dropping out of Georgia state in order to pursue my music dream at full sail university. During my time at full sail, I made multiple albums with 404 will. After I graduated I started working with moebank888 and we created multiple songs together and an album named, “888 the revolution”. Now fast forward to today me and Moebank88 are working on an album and we have a song coming out on timbaland’s new album. I’m currently trying to continue to build the 888 brand with Moebank888 and keep pushing the boundaries of what people think about music. I want to knock down all the walls and limits people put on music, because I feel like we’re all looking for something new.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The struggles along the way was just learning how to “move” when i’m in certain rooms. Learning how to speak to people because I’m naturally an introvert. I had to make a big decision when I was dropping out of Georgia state, so I had to think, “do I want to stay in Atlanta and build or do I want to learn more and get better at full sail in certain avenues such as engineering and recording. Ultimately I decided to go to full sail to work on my craft and I can say, it worked out really well because I know things now that I think I wouldn’t have been able to learn without full sail university.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a producer/engineer. I produce records, record, and mix songs. I also songwrite on the side whenever it’s needed. I’m known for my unorthodox drums and pushing the boundaries of what hip hop and music can be. The thing I’m most proud of is the tape, 888 the revolution, and what we were able to do with it. The thing that sets me apart from others is the fact that I listen to ALL different types of music so my sound is very diverse and kind of weird, but in a good way.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory is when I was a kid, I used to have a radio and I would listen to my favorite station and record the songs on tape in order to be able to listen back and enjoy the songs at a later time. I was listening to bow wow, Soulja boy, and Kanye west heavily.
