Today we’d like to introduce you to Dizzy Dain.
Hi Dizzy, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Well, I started painting at four years old and told my mom I wanted to see my art on buildings and in homes. So from very early on I knew this was where I’d be. I studied fine art and began selling original oil paintings at 14, doing murals by 18 and now I work on production sets, doing public art for major companies like Pandora Music, Slutty Vegan, and many more.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Smooth is an understatement for sure! The highs are very high and the lows sometimes feel impossible to get out of. And by “lows” I don’t just mean mentally, but from the dead time in the slow seasons where jobs aren’t coming in, to the lack of respect people and corporate companies have for the artist behind the art. Many times, I’ve found it eventually pays off especially when you don’t take the issues seriously. After all, the public doesn’t take our personal issues as artists seriously. The lows however have showed me some of my most inspirational moments, then knowing I have the freedom to create without worry is UNMATCHED. So no, the road isn’t smooth but it’s very much worth it in my opinion.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I do my best to use every creative outlet I can. My favorite thing to do is oil paint large-scale distortions in portraiture and landscape. There’s nothing more eye-opening than painting how you see the world. I also specialize in mural work, set design, creative direction, and fabrication. My recent Pride mural and my inclusion in Art Beats and Lyrics are currently what I’m most proud of. Each year, I work to beat my most ambitious pieces, so that may change in the New Year. What sets me apart from others? Let’s say I’ve got my secret ingredients. It’s always in the sauce.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I see myself hosting my own annual exhibit at Art Basel Miami and Switzerland. By then I’d have oil paintings in every continent. I also plan to open a gallery officially, help to get my collective The Fox and Monocle known worldwide, And I will be a household name. But I don’t often share my plans so we’ll see what really goes down by then!
