Rising Stars: Meet DJ Zoo of Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to DJ Zoo.

DJ Zoo

Hi DJ, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey as a DJ started in the most organic way possible—just taking control of the music at parties and gatherings. My close friend, TJ aka Tako, saw what I was doing and made it official, labeling me a DJ before I even realized it myself. That moment sparked something in me, and I never looked back.

Over the years, my career has had its ups and downs—stories for days—but one of the biggest turning points was DJing and hosting alongside Chance the Rapper, an artist I grew up listening to. That was a surreal full-circle moment and a reminder that I was on the right path.

I don’t box myself into one sound or style. I love experimenting, creating new vibes, and making people feel connected, whether I’m DJing or hosting. For nearly a decade, I’ve been a staple in the Atlanta nightlife scene, playing in legendary spots like Encore, Republic, Alibi, and Oak, as well as iconic hood clubs like Chit Chat, Veloure, and KISS. I’m also known for curating a chain of legendary house and creative connect parties under the name Zoovie—bringing people together through music and energy.

A year into my journey, I became a father to my son, Seven. Now, at seven years old, he’s already learning how to DJ, and he’s got skills that might even surpass mine one day. Teaching him is one of the most fulfilling things I’ve ever done. He’s truly the greatest son a father could ask for.

My story is one of passion, persistence, and community. I’ve built something real from the ground up, and the journey is still unfolding.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The journey hasn’t always been smooth, but that’s what makes it real. Like any path worth taking, DJing has come with its share of highs and lows. There were moments when the doors seemed wide open—big gigs, major connections, and opportunities that felt like they could change everything. But there were also times when it felt like I had to fight for my place, prove myself over and over, and push through setbacks. Another challenge has been balancing my career with fatherhood. Having my son, Seven, early in my journey meant I had to move differently. Late nights, constant travel, and the unpredictable nature of this industry made it tough at times, but he also became my biggest motivation. Everything I do is for him, and seeing him learn the craft now makes all the sacrifices worth it.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

I’m most proud of fatherhood—being a dad to my son, Seven, has answered every question I had about life. It’s given me perspective, motivation, and a deep sense of purpose that fuels everything I do.

What sets me apart is my originality and unapologetic energy. When I’m on the mic, I command attention, create an atmosphere of raw authenticity, and guarantee a memorable experience every time I step up. My style isn’t just about playing music; it’s about creating a vibe that resonates long after the party ends.

I’m also widely known for hosting and DJing signature events. I’ve made a name for myself with Agenda Studios’ series of parties called “About Last Night,” where we bring people together for an unforgettable night. In addition, I curate my own series of exclusive parties, intimate dinners, and gatherings that bring together entrepreneurs and creatives outside of the traditional club scene. These events reflect not only my passion for music but also my commitment to creating spaces where ideas, culture, and community thrive.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Yes and no. It wasn’t a moment of sudden revelation but rather a time of deep reflection and a chance to work on my craft. The pandemic gave me the space to dig into my music, experiment with new sounds, and refine the energy I bring to every performance.
