Today we’d like to introduce you to Doris Thomas
Hi Doris, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
Confidence is always something that I’ve struggled with growing up. I’ve always wanted to do something in life to make others feel beautiful and confident with themselves. My journey as a makeup artist started when I was 19. It was something I did for fun. Then it became something that I loved. I finally found something to help others feel better about themselves. And that is the best job anyone can ask for.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. Some of the struggles that I have had along the way is realizing that I am not for everyone and being okay with just that. With moving to a bigger city I understood that there are more people doing the exact same things that you are and you have to find ways to set yourself apart . I’ve wanted to be accepted by everyone I came in contact with and always ended up forgetting my drive which is to make my clients feel beautiful. Like many other makeup artists, you have your good days and your bad days but as long as you keep your faith and a positive attitude everything will work out how it’s supposed to.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a makeup artist. I specialize in bridal, natural and glam makeup. I am known for having the ability to adapt to any surrounding space . I can service you from your car to your studio. I am most proud of being featured and published in three magazines this year. What sets me apart from artists is my personality. When my clients sit in my chair, they can forget about all things that life brings and enjoy pampering themselves. That’s what push me to keep going.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Taking a risk is a must in this industry. Leaving my home town two years ago to move to Atlanta to tackle my dreams was the scariest risk I’ve taken . I was very nervous about this decision and the idea of starting over but I took a leap of faith and decided that Atlanta is the place where my business would grow. My perception about risk-taking is that it’s all about how you make it. Life is hard and change is hard but with a positive mindset and a plan, anything is possible.
