Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Janet Bentley-Ewers.
Hi Dr. Bentley-Ewers, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My story is multi-faceted and ever-evolving but motivated for a cause. As a mom of three, wife, doctor, dancer (daughter dances too), certified coach, & playwright, my platform has always been about service – serving God and serving others through commitments to my home, church, and community. I am currently on the board of three non-profit organizations as well as intricately involved in the fabric of encouraging others to seek and thrive in their purpose through social media and burgeoning workshops.
“Level Up with Janet E.” is my social media platform- it is a journey to bring out the best of myself for God, my family and for the world, and I strive to bestow the same spirit upon others. Together, we are humbled but bold and powerful in our course, pressing towards the path to our greater purpose. Thankful for the thousands of people that have joined me on this journey through YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and in my workshops- know we will continue to LEVEL UP in our purpose with power!
I love to dance and have been dancing for the past 15 years in different genres- ballet is my first love, and I incorporate that into my love of praise dance. I have been a praise dance leader in two different churches in Pennsylvania and Georgia and love the privilege to combine my two passions- dance and love for the Lord! I am also blessed to have my beautiful daughter, Jordin, who loves to not only dance but sing and act as well, and my two sons, Jaylen, who is an extremely talented artist who loves to draw and sketch, and my son Elijah, gifted in music, especially the piano. I have always tried to foster a love for all things art in my home and life, and it shows through my children.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Some of the challenges along the way are the struggles of anyone who wants to succeed and intends to “focus” but distractions and mishaps may get in the way. A prime example was in completing my doctorate degree, I was working full-time in a high-level job, raising three children, and tending to a home, so I had to spread out my classes and dissertation work over a longer period of time to get through each class successfully and then move forward to my final project. Other challenges included juggling my time and not getting distracted by those things that didn’t serve me or my purpose- nights of hanging with friends or watching TV were few and far between. I had a greater task not only at home but in my God-given purpose- and I believe completing my doctorate this year was part of that ultimate purpose.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a Vice President at a large retail brokerage firm in the Atlanta, GA area, specializing in Compliance matters. I think I am known for building good partnerships with those I work with and being a “doer” – getting things done and thinking through processes thoroughly and accurately. I am big on follow-up and follow-through as well, and that is important to me not only in my professional life but personal life as well. I believe one of the keys to being a successful person in life is being responsible, accountable, and building integrity and trust into whatever you do. When these are the traits you embody, people will start to see you and those traits as connected and thus, a reflection of your character. Your character and the way you are perceived by others can bring you closer or pull you farther from your success and purpose, so focus on those parts of your character that can help bring you in.
In all of my endeavors, whether it is work, dance, church, or other non-profit work, I seek to build the partnerships and relationships that make the project greater and more impactful to the group as a whole and hopefully to those in its reach.
Any big plans?
I have a few projects that I am working on currently – a script is in the works for a possible mini-series, wrote a short piece for an anthology about women finding their purpose that should be out by the beginning of 2024, and looking to stay healthy through the continuance of my recreational dancing in the community (again ballet and praise dance is my favorite!). In 2024, looking to increase my reach on the “Level Up” platform beyond social media with more in-person workshops, conferences, and speaking engagements. In December 2023, I am taking part as a dancer/cast member in Atlanta’s 1st annual play production of “The Gospel Nutcracker”, being offered by The DiPa Center.”
