Hi Eboni, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am originally from California, West Covina. I am a child of a single mother my father passed away when I was four years old… I have always been plus size growing up. I used to wonder why my clothes were so expensive. I would tell my mom one day, I’m going to sell clothes 4 plus-sized women at an affordable price. I didn’t think of selling clothes again until my late thirties after I graduated college. I knew if I ever started a business I would name it J .Alan after my father. His name was Jerome Alan Gold.
After years of working for someone else and having corporate jobs I made the decision to go into business for my self. I was pondering what my next steps were and remembered that I wanted to sell clothes 4 plus-size women and thought why not sell clothes online? I knew nothing about how to start or what to do. I researched getting a business license, web hosting companies, and finding good wholesale vendors. And that was when J Alan started to form.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There have been many struggles. In fact, there are still struggles. I struggle with finances, time, and just motivation. I know it sounds cliche someone with a business having no motivation but it can be disparaging at times. What I mean is, having events, spending lots of money, putting together fashion shows, booking models, venues, and not profiting as much as you spent.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Don’t be afraid to just start. There’s no way you’re gonna know everything heck, I still don’t know everything but don’t give up. People are going to say things like, “oh your little business how’s your little business “you have to remember to suppress that kind of energy and keep moving
