Today we’d like to introduce you to Elaine Burge.
Hi Elaine, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I have always loved art. I won a drawing contest in kindergarten and the reward was a ticket to the rodeo.. it all started there! I worked with a muralist starting in high school and going through college. I painted murals behind miniature train layouts for a few years, worked as a web designer in Atlanta for two years and then finally started taking on commissions. I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Georgia but took many painting and drawing classes just because I wanted to. I met my husband, Richey, and we have been cheering each other on in our entrepreneurial journeys since 2011. I have just moved into a 1940s gas station with Al Woods, a friend and founder of Warthen Lane Interiors in Sandersville, Georgia. My daughters, Lucy (5) and Bonnie (2) are a huge inspiration behind my work and visit the studio multiple times a week. I look forward to creating and learning more about it. Thank you for being interested in my work!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I would say it was smooth but winding! I have enjoyed all of the learning experiences and feel that any day that involves a brush in my hand is a good one.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in Fine Art and Jewelry but have dabbled in the international trade of goods and dinnerware. I think I am known for original fine art featuring bright colors. I am most proud of fulfilling my dream of working as an Artist. I would say that my color theory really has no rules and is a little out of the box… I like to abstract subject matters and break the rules a little. I get to interact with my subject matters (quail, pheasants, cows, dogs, chickens, etc.) living in the country and I feel like that is pretty special.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I love Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert and Art/Work by Heather Darcy Bhandari and Jonathan Melber. I love listening to Sia Radio, Girl Talk and true crime podcasts. I think studying the outdoors by being in them and loving life has helped me most in my work.
