Today we’d like to introduce you to Ella Beth
Hi Ella, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m an Australian jazz-soul singer/songwriter who has been performing professionally for over a decade both in Australia and internationally.
I grew up in country Australia, in a town of around 40.000 people in what is known as a cold climate wine region.
Growing up my family were heavily involved in church and both my parents are musicians and played in the worship band regularly. I fell in love with singing at an early age and pursued music as much as I could throughout my schooling.
After high school I spent 2 years on the road as a vocalist in a touring band and got to see most of the Australian East coast while on tour.
In 2012, I moved to Hanoi, Vietnam where I intended to spend 6 months teaching English, however after 4 months there I became heavily involved with the music scene and 6 months ended up turning into 9 years and many many more adventures than I ever imagined!
At the start of 2019 I auditioned for The Voice Vietnam and became the first foreign/non Vietnamese female to compete on the show which I did bilingually in Vietnamese and English.
Once I finished my time on the show, I moved to Saigon/ Ho Chi Minh city as it is the bigger city and there was more opportunity as a vocalist.
It was there on July 4th, 2019 that I met my now husband, an American man from the great state of Georgia.
We hit it off fairly immediately and were quite happy and settled together until 2021 when due to the pandemic he had to move home to America. At the end of 2021 and just 2 weeks shy of my 9 year anniversary in Vietnam I flew to Atlanta to be with my man and we married not long after.
Since coming to the USA and beginning building a life here I have had some incredible experiences and opportunities. I currently perform in the frontline of corporate band- Big Night Dynamite- touring the South Eastern quarter of the USA almost weekly.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Being a full time musician/artist isn’t always an easy career path. Being an independent artist can be especially challenging to balance earning enough income to live while also putting enough hours into your craft.
As an international traveller and citizen I’ve been beyond privileged in my time to have seen so much of the world and to have had the opportunity to perform internationally but something I didn’t expect was the occasional deep loneliness that can go hand in hand with being far from ‘home’.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My voice has been compared to singers of Jazz/ Soul like Amy Winehouse, Dusty Springfield and Joss Stone. Meanwhile my music and songwriting carry elements of folk, country, gospel and blues music.
My live performances can range from crooning smooth jazz to belting out soul ballads, all while weaving stories into my music.
In late 2023, I released my debut single ‘Unlike Me’ a soulful RnB number with heavily jazz influenced chords and harmonies.
In early 2024, I released my sophomore single ‘Giving Up On Love’, a sassy popified blues track that you might expect to hear in a smoky jazzy piano bar.
I’m currently in pre-production for a number of projects coming in later 2025 and working on collaborating with other artists in the wider ATL community.
I’m most proud of developing my own voice in regards to songwriting, I feel as though I am able to be my authentic self when on stage and I’m proud of my integrity in that regard.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
Don’t ever be afraid to pursue a passion or a dream. There wasn’t heaps of support for me when I grew up wanting to be a singer, not everyone sees that as a career path but I have faithfully followed this passion to use my voice and be on stage and taken risks and said yes to opportunities with my heart open and I really believe that is the secret to success, being open hearted and saying yes to opportunities that present themselves.
Also, don’t be afraid to kick a door down. Until I walked into that audition room for The Voice Vietnam, they hadn’t ever had a foreigner try out before but there was no rules saying a foreigner couldn’t.. so I did!
Take risks for your dreams!
