Rising Stars: Meet Emily Hall of downtown Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Hall.

Hi Emily, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started off as just being a kid who loved video games. As a kid I was incredibly shy and had a difficult time talking to others, video games helped give me confidence to connect with others and inspired me to want to create interactive media as well. Once I got to college I began studying game design much more seriously and worked hard to push my self to learn to create in ways that were meaningful to me. This ended up going beyond building games and into more general interactive media. Today my passion lies in experimental art, merging tech and visual design to create something unique and immersive, whether that be through games, audio visuals, or animation.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As a nuerodivergent person it was difficult initially to gain the confidence to create and share my work, acedemia has always been a struggle for me so it was hard to drop that mindset of not feeling as good as my peers. It took a long time but eventually I learned how to compare myself to others in a productive way that pushed me to work harder. One thing I learned from this is the value of time, as long as you are passionate enough to put in the time you really can learn or do anything, even if it sometimes takes a little longer to understand certain things compared to others, the more time you put in the easier it gets.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in the creation of interactive new media art, primarily through the lens of 3D graphics. Some of my most notable work is self publishing my own experimental indie games that I have built both independently and with friends that I have made along the way. I also enjoy in creating audio reactive visualizers for other experimental art/ music shows for local events in Atlanta. What sets me apart from others is probably my visual style, I find that art is most fun to create when you allow yourself that freedom to experiment, I want to create in a way that is not only visually impressive but also fun and playful in design.
