Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Hendrix.
Hi Emily, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I became a travel agent ten years ago because I was looking for something that combined my passion for travel with my enjoyment of working independently. I loved the idea of creating my own business that I could build from the ground up and run in a way that felt authentic to me.
When I first started, I focused mostly on theme park vacations—Disney and Universal were my specialty—but over time my business has grown so much broader. I’ve had the chance to cruise with nearly every major cruise line, which is one of my favorite parts of what I do. It allows me to really get a sense of each cruise line’s personality so I can match my clients with the right one for their style of travel.
I’ve also been able to explore Europe and bring those first-hand experiences back to my clients who are ready for something a little bigger and farther away. And this past year, we traveled to Japan for the first time and I absolutely fell in love with it—the food, the culture, the little everyday details. It was just incredible, and I can’t wait to go back.
One of my favorite things about being a travel advisor is helping clients take the stress out of planning so they can just focus on having the best possible experience. I love getting to know what excites them and what matters most, so I can create trips that fit them perfectly. And personally, I’m always looking for new places to explore and new experiences to try so I can keep sharing fresh ideas with the people I work with
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not always been a smooth road. 2020 wiped out my business completely. All of the trips I had helped plan and book were suddenly cancelled. It was tough to stick it out but I’m really proud of myself for continuing and being able to serve my clients even if it meant to cancelling their trip.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
There are a few things that separate me from others. I have a personal relationship with my clients. It’s not just business to me. I treat my clients like a friend. I want what’s best for them. I offer candid advice even if that means a lost sale or smaller booking. I value responsiveness so my clients can always expect a quick reply from me.
I am really proud that I started my business from ground zero and all of my 500+ clients today are from referrals. It shows that not only do people value me but think I can help their friends and family too. It’s such a great compliment!
What are your plans for the future?
I am always planning for my next trip. Right now, I am most excited about a river cruise next December from Frankfurt, Germany to Basel, Switzerland. It will be my first time on the Rhine river!
