Today we’d like to introduce you to Erica Scott.
Hi Erica, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My creative journey began in my junior year of high school, when I earned the leading role in a full-length production of The Outsiders. Despite strong competition, I was cast as a Black young woman in the lead—a milestone that fueled my passion for the stage. I continued to grow as a performer, taking on featured roles in productions such as Rent, where I portrayed the Bag Lady.
After high school, I became even more dedicated to my craft, exploring every facet of the creative spectrum. I began modeling for designers at NYFW and was featured on the cover of a Zane Book. My love for theater remained strong, and I continued to perform in stage productions, always returning to my roots.
Eventually, I transitioned into television and film, creating my first short film in 2022 during the pandemic. This experience launched and catapulted my interest in TV and film, opening new doors for my artistic expression.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Along the way, I dedicated myself to prioritizing my mental health. Unbeknownst to me, I was dealing with a serious mental illness that I tried my best not to let define me. The discovery of this illness began at age 18. Realizing I needed guidance and help, I advocated for myself to my mentors and mental health professionals. Although it was very challenging and taboo, I started sharing my journey on my YouTube channel to create relatable content that others struggling could identify with.
Finding out who I was within the illness was challenging, but I never let it defeat me or take away my willingness to succeed. I’ve lost opportunities, but I remained diligent in maintaining a hunger that surpassed others who were not dealing with the same things as myself. Nevertheless, I persisted.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am an actress, filmmaker, content creator, and photographer/videographer currently based in Austin, Texas. I have a show on Amazon Prime and ALL BLK called Makeup X Breakup, where I’ve had the pleasure of working on three wonderful seasons. I play the role of Amber, a woman navigating her marriage in NYC. I am most proud of my performances on the show and how I brought the character to life, fully immersing myself in the role.
What sets me apart is my authenticity and fearlessness in being myself and creating visual stories that foster community and social impact. I am resilient, having managed my career independently without a manager or agent for some time, and I continue to make things happen. I look forward to what’s to come in 2026!
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
My best networking advice is going to every meaningful event you can and speak to everyone in the room, even those you believe you would never usually talk to.
What has worked well for me is connecting with at least 5-10 people by simply introducing yourself and what you do and how you all can collaborate together.
