Today we’d like to introduce you to Erika Kight.
Hi Erika, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Almost 7 years ago I was ready for a career change. I wanted to dive deeper into sales and a role that would challenge me. I came into the world of roofing with zero experience in the industry, and not really knowing what to expect. The good thing about developing sales skills is they’re applicable from industry to industry. I focused in on what had made me successful in the past and applied it here and it all clicked. I really enjoy what I do, the homeowners/business owners I’ve helped, and all of the people I’ve met along the way.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I think being a female in a male dominated industry is always a bit tough at first, it’s hard to have others take you seriously. I still get asked if my Dad or husband own the company and that’s why I work here (they don’t). I take great pride in building my book of business through true grit, knowledge, and honesty. I love that I’ve built something unique and showing women that you don’t have to be intimidated by rooms that maybe you don’t immediately feel welcome in. Do it anyways, be your authentic self, work hard and it will all come together.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a Project Manager so I handle the sale cycle from beginning to end. I specialize in helping homeowners/business owners protect their biggest asset-their home/business with guidance replacing their roofing system-whether that’s through their insurance, or out of pocket. Either way I provide white glove service where my clients are able to keep living their lives while me and my team handle everything else. I take pride in breaking the stigma that roofers are untrustworthy and don’t have their client’s best interests at heart. I lead with honesty and integrity, all while educating the client along the way. Having your roof replaced is a major project, and when I’m your project manager it will be a painless process. I am the difference, that makes the difference!
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I’ve found it best to connect with others in my industry, and really listen to their stories. I also really appreciate the female business owners I’ve met along the way. I’ve learned so much from them, and been truly inspired by each and every one of them. We have built special relationships that have transcended business connects, and have developed into friendships.
