Rising Stars: Meet Falan McMahan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Falan McMahan.

Hi Falan, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always been passionate about anything beauty related. Growing up I was always the one getting everyone ready and giving impromptu haircuts (which were usually disastrous). So naturally when I finished my core classes in college, I applied for cosmetology school. Getting started in the hair industry is extremely discouraging. I worked at a couple of different department store salons before making the decision to try booth rental. I was very fortunate to work with a mentor who taught me everything she knew and gave me grace while I was building my clientele. A little over a year ago the opportunity came for me to open my own salon. Of course, I was terrified but I took a leap of faith and Haus of Luxe was born. It’s one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I think one of the biggest struggles was the start-up and finding balance between working 10+ hour days, family, social media and making sure the salon was stocked and clean. I had no idea what I was doing or what goes into making a business run smoothly. Luckily I had a great support system and some help along the way. Hiring was also a challenge in the beginning but it has worked out for the best because I’ve ended up with the most amazing team I could possibly ask for.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a blonde specialist. Most of my clients are blonde. I also specialize in “lived in” blondes for a flawless grow-out for my low-maintenance girlies. I’m most proud of the clientele I’ve built for myself. They really make work not feel like work!

Who else deserves credit in your story?
My husband has played a huge role in where I am today. He’s my biggest cheerleader and is always pushing me to be my best.
