Rising Stars: Meet Frank Edwards

Today we’d like to introduce you to Frank Edwards.

Hi Frank, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My entry into photography/videography/graphic design began as an extension of my penchant for storytelling. For my entire life, I’ve sought different avenues and mediums to help me get the story out.

Earlier in my career, it was music production and songwriting. Later on, I became a five-time published, award-winning author.

This iteration of my growth arc is filled with getting the story out… visually.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I don’t tend to think about things in whether or not they’re challenging or problematic but whether or not they’re beneficial. I think it’s just the way I’m wired.

I fully expect things to be fulfilling when I’ve reached some level of competency.

I’m reminded of something my grandmother used to say all the time: “It doesn’t have to be easy, it just has to be worth it!”

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I like to imagine myself as a creative who has a signature style or look as it relates to visuals. I prefer darker lighting, dramatic moods, and heavy storytelling energy.

There are times where I am faced with providing looks that clients prefer and having to deliver to their specs regardless of how I would do it. I’m fortunate enough to be in two museum exhibits in Charlotte, NC and I’m very proud of those.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
The best advice I could give to a burgeoning visualist would be to NOT OVERSPEND on gear/equipment and definitely do not EVER work for free.

Your tastes and tool requirements will change so much as you grow into who you are destined to be that investing in too many tools wouldn’t be beneficial.
