Today we’d like to introduce you to Hayden Gregg.
Hi Hayden, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been painting for as long as I can remember, but it wasn’t until 2018 that I officially made the leap into decorative painting and business ownership. Originally, I saw myself curating art exhibits—I was drawn to the idea of storytelling through visual environments. But as life would have it, a few right doors opened (and a few wrong ones closed), and I found myself pivoting toward a path that felt even more aligned with who I am creatively.
What started as small side jobs gradually became larger opportunities. I gained the trust of designers who valued not only my technical skills, but also my ability to see a space’s potential and bring a unique artistic perspective to it. Over time, that trust turned into relationships, and those relationships helped build the foundation for what HaydenPaints is today. Every wall, ceiling, and surface is a canvas—and I’ve been lucky enough to paint my way into rooms I used to only dream about.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road the whole way—especially in the beginning. One of the biggest challenges early on was building a consistent client base. Decorative painting is a niche field, and when you’re just starting out, it takes time for people to learn who you are and trust you with their spaces.
To get things moving, I leaned into networking and started putting myself—and my work—out there. Social media and word-of-mouth became powerful tools. I made it a point to connect with people, showcase my process, and share finished pieces. Slowly but surely, people started reaching out. They’d seen my work in a friend’s home or stumbled across a photo online and wanted something similar.
The turning point came when I stopped worrying about the hustle and just focused on the work—letting my craftsmanship and attention to detail speak for itself. That’s what ultimately built trust and turned first-time clients into long-term collaborators.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a decorative painter and faux finisher, specializing in custom murals, painted floors, and finished furniture. My work brings depth, personality, and storytelling into a space—whether it’s a hand-painted ceiling, a bold entryway floor, or a piece of furniture with a finish no one else has.
What sets me apart is my ability to take a client’s vision and turn it into something that feels both cohesive and unexpected. I am proud of the trust I’ve built over the years and the spaces I’ve helped transform into something truly memorable.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I have learned is that exceptional customer service is just as vital as the work itself. In an industry as tight-knit—and with projects as personal as the ones I work on—how you treat people really matters. You’re not just painting a wall or a floor; you’re being invited into someone’s home, their vision, and sometimes even their dream.
Being communicative, respectful, and consistent builds the kind of trust that lasts beyond a single project. At the end of the day, clients remember how you made them feel just as much as the final finish—and that’s what keeps the right people coming back.
