Rising Stars: Meet Huanxi Jiang

Today we’d like to introduce you to Huanxi Jiang.

Huanxi Jiang

Hi Huanxi, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was previously a preschool teacher, and every time I read illustrated books to the kids, I felt excited and attracted by the stories and the illustrations. Then I decided to pursue my dream, to go back to school and learn what I enjoy! So now I am an illustrator who is really interested in pattern design and children’s book illustration!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My undergraduate major is e-business. So, when I first started graduate school, I was a little bit nervous and unsure about if I could do it well. But at the same time, I felt blessed because the professors were passionate and created a creative environment for us. I enjoyed my studies in SCAD. And I learned a lot during the process.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am an illustrator! I love what I do, and I get my inspiration from my life and nature. What I experienced would become part of me that was reflected in my illustrations. I love creating illustrations that can make people smile. I enjoy combining cute little things in life that people might neglect in daily life; those little things make our day! I love trying out different things, murals, book illustrations, patterns, etc. I did two bathroom murals for a Japanese restaurant – Sushi Zen. I enjoyed this process. From the ideation to sketches, we had communications to make things work. And to the final mural, I enjoyed using traditional materials and putting down the brushstrokes on the wall to make the mural happen!

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I love traveling and I am always doing sketches on my way, I think that is a way to keep me remembering and noticing the little things that happen around me.
