Today we’d like to introduce you to Ivo Horak.
Hi Ivo, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was born in Slovakia and grew up in Toronto Canada. Growing up I competed in gymnastics for 20 years and was an alternate for the 1998 Olympic Games. Currently, I am an Optometrist practicing in Marietta GA. I graduated my doctor of Optometry in Boston in 1996. I’ve initially worked in corporate Optometry but have transitioned to private practice about 15 years ago. I specialize in Ortho-keratology which is the reshaping of the cornea with special corneal molds to allow freedom from wearing contacts or glasses during the day. I have been married for 20 years and have 2 teenage children. Currently, my hobbies are tennis, cooking and landscaping. I will be opening my second Optique location by Marietta Square in about 1-2 months.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Construction of our new office has been delayed quite a bit due to Covid. We are almost there. Trying to raise two teenagers, two dogs, 3 birds, tropical fish and a bearded dragon is a challenge but I enjoy it every day.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am an optometrist practicing full-scope eye care. We have a comprehensive practice and see many children. I specialize in Ortho-keratology where we reshape corneas with specialized molds that are worn only while sleeping and allow people to not have to wear glasses or contacts during the day. This procedure not only allows great daily vision but also slows down the progression of nearsightedness 50-90%. It is a great option for children and adults. I am also fluent in five languages.
Our practice differentiates us as we have very unique eyewear not found in conventional practices or corporate settings.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I believe I am a risk taker. I enjoy being on the forefront of technology whether in Eyecare of other aspects of my life.
