Today we’d like to introduce you to Jade Crosby.
Hi Jade, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I have been singing for as long as I remember. I have always been fascinated with music and acting– especially the intersection of both! I started doing musical theatre when I was three years old at local theatres in and around Atlanta. Performing has always been a huge part of my life. I wrote my first song at six years old and have continued writing since. I put out my first solo single “Magic” in February of this year.
I joined a post-hardcore band called Novumora about a year ago and I genuinely think that is one of the best decisions I have ever made. My bandmates are truly like family to me and it has been such an amazing & fulfilling journey. We recently released our new EP called “Good Grief!” and I highly recommend you give it a listen.
Today I am working on myself and my music constantly. I am so in love with the journey and getting to be creative day in and day out. I feel so blessed to live such a spectacular life full of laughter, artistry, and great friends.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Pursuing a career in music isn’t the easiest. There have been many times when I have “given up” or shifted paths, but I always came back around. I had tremendous fear around putting myself online because I was always so scared of getting hateful comments, but shifting my mindset around “hate” has really helped me. For example, you’ll never get criticized by someone doing more than you. That realization helped me tackle fear.
Another struggle is constant rejection. You will hear “no” way more than “yes.” This is true in acting and singing. Reframing rejection as redirection has helped me as well because what is meant for you will come to you. Sometimes though, you have to build your own table to sit at and then people will come over and sit with you.
So, the road has been anything but smooth yet it has been a pretty fun ride and I wouldn’t change a thing. The lessons I have learned and continue to learn are priceless & that’s what life is all about.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a singer and actress based in Atlanta, GA. I sing a variety of different genres (Pop, R&B, Jazz, Metal, & Musical Theatre).
I am in the band “Novumora” the lead singer. Getting to play music with my best friends all the time is so fulfilling!
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Never be the smartest in the room, ever. Do not let your ego get in the way because you do not grow in a vacuum. Surround yourself with great friends that inspire you. Make sure your friends do not talk down about themselves because we are sponges. Whenever I hang out with people who use self-deprecating humor or who talk bad about themselves, I start feeling terrible about myself. The energy that isn’t yours can really shroud your mind, so just please be cognizant of that.
