Rising Stars: Meet Jah Shams

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jah Shams.

Jah, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Originally I am from South Central Los Angeles, CA. I was one of those kids who found himself involved in all types of activities, sports, or the arts. I was definitely doing a lot of plays, talent shows, and speeches in elementary school. Once I entered high school my love for football took over. The whole time I was living out this great football career and everything that went with it. I knew acting and writing were definitely a part of my fabric.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has definitely not been a smooth road, to say the least. The major challenge for me has been my transition from LA to Atlanta and answering the who are you question. The obstacles, struggles, and challenges you are going to go through in this business of entertainment. You can’t let it stop you from believing in yourself.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
What are you known for is a very interesting and eye-opening question for me? Although I am seen as an actor, a writer, and a producer. In LA I am known for my talent in acting and producing. It wasn’t until I moved to Atlanta 2 years ago that my writing started to take notice. Now don’t get me wrong, Atlanta has given me a hefty amount of acting jobs; however, I am proud to have people in my corner that enjoy my writing.

As an artist and a creative individual; there is a saying I have at the end of my bio. “Sidney Poitier, Paul Robeson, Humphrey Bogart, if you do not know who they are, you can not possibly understand my talent”. I believe what sets me apart are these three men, who were seen as gentlemen on and off screen. No matter the roles they took on they were just that… Gentlemen.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
Another true love of mine is teaching the youth. Two classes and techniques I created in Los Angeles were Acting for Self-Esteem and The Art of On-Air Interviewing for Student-Athletes. These techniques are definitely something I would love to implement here in Atlanta.

Enjoy what you do. The saying “If love what you do, you will never work a day in your life”, still holds true. Your hobby, what you do for fun is your talent, It is what you do with it that will set you apart.
