Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Lackey.
Hi Jasmine, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My photography journey started in 2016 when I told my oldest brother, Chris, that I knew what I wanted to do with my life but I didn’t know how I’d even get started. That year he bought me my first camera and that’s when it started. I did as many free sessions as I could just to learn my camera, editing, posing…etc. I had many rough experiences but I never let that get me down for long. I knew this is what I was going to do no matter what. Now I have 3 kids, a fiancé and business is the better than ever. I’m the cover photographer two Magazines (Neighbors of Oconee and Oconee Living) and I’ll be published in another magazine soon as well. This year I start a huge goal of mine that I’ve been working up to for years: travel photography with my daughter. If I’m not doing photography you can probably find me at home with my family grilling out. My family and friends are my biggest motivations and they inspire me daily. I’m truly blessed to be able to do what I love with some amazing people by my side.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not at all. I’ve faced being jobless with no income and no client booking. But I’m one of the lucky ones that has an amazing support system. When I had no income my dad was right there supporting me and doing whatever he could to give me that push I needed to succeed. Now he’s able to watch his daughter succeed as a mother and in her career. With help from my father, brothers, fiancé, and fiancé’s family I’ve risen to success and it’s only up from here. I’m forever grateful.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m an outdoors Photographer. I specialize in family, children, portraits and maternity sessions. I’m known for my work being bold, eye-catching and giving that “wow” factor. I’m patient with kids because I know I’m working on their time and rules. Once they’re comfortable with me I work my magic. Maternity is a big love of mine. There’s something so magical about being able to photograph such a short amount of time in the lives of both the parent(s) and baby. I’m different from others because I always go above and beyond for my clients. They will feel comfortable while they’re with me so I can get the best images possible. I’m huge on communication so they have nothing to worry about from start to finish. My work is for the bold. The ones that want their images to make people stop and say “Wow, this is stunning.’ I’m immensely proud of being able to create their images.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I’m a huge risk taker. My finance will cheer me on but I will say some of my risks probably make him sweat a little. I invest in my image. I have a specific look I want for my work and I’m willing to invest in it. I invest in styled sessions. From gowns to locations, flowers, makeup artists…I’m determined for people to see my art. It’s paid off. I have people from all over the United States inquiring about my work. But me investing in my work made that happen.
