Today we’d like to introduce you to Jay Lotus
Hi Jay, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In 2022, when I was 19 years old, I was going through the journey of finding myself. Specifically, what I wanted to do with my life. I had recently developed a deep connection to any sort of soulful art. My love for the arts started to take up most of my thinking space. Comedy, cinema, paintings, and of course, music. My taste in music then broadened from hip-hop, to blues, to heavy metal, etc. I had always been a creative kid, so music was in my life, but not to the extent it was about to be. That same year, I decided to buy a MacBook with Logic Pro X. Since then, I’ve learned to mix, master, and record music in my bedroom. I added more equipment and created a sufficient home studio for my needs. I even have other artists that record in my space. Other than that, I started performing my music locally, and developed a small brand for myself online. I’m really just beginning, but my dreams are massive !
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I’ve certainly encountered some struggles. Working with a variety of creative people is a blessing, but minds are bound to clash eventually. I try to stay prepared and aware of things like that.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I like to consider myself a conscious hip-hop artist. I’m proud to say that I can do what I do independently. Like I mentioned before, I write, producer, record, mix, and master all of my own music. So, my sound and substance is very important to me. I’m currently searching and developing to create a unique sound.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Just put yourself out there. The only thing that has worked for me is motion. Go to an open mic, reach out to people, post your content. No matter what it is. Mentors will find you if you’re hungry and constantly seeking information.
