Rising Stars: Meet Jennifer Harwood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Harwood.

Hi Jennifer, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I got into modeling back in the start of 2020. I had gone through a difficult transition in my life and wanted to make it into a positive change by focusing my time and energy on something I really enjoyed. For years I’d been so interested fashion and watching things pertaining to modeling like ‘America’s Next Top Model’. I loved all the wild ideas they featured on the show and I eventually said to myself why only just sit back and watch? Why not actually do that myself? Ever since, I’ve been slowly building up my portfolio and networking with different photographers/models/clients. It’s great to see my portfolio get better and better and I’m blessed to have been given amazing opportunities along the way.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It’s been a journey I had to navigate for myself. I feel like there’s no blueprint for this. Initially, I wasn’t so sure how to get myself out there to let the world know what I have to offer. Also, it’s challenging because I’m only 5’2 so I don’t fit into the traditional model mold thus it’s challenging to get the advantage of a modeling agency to work with. I’ve more so had to just figure out how to get exposure and opportunities on my own strength

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Modeling has been my passion first and I’m blessed to be able to profit from it as well. In the age of social media, the term “model” is thrown around loosely. Everyone claims to be an “Instagram model” nowadays. I try to stand out from that. When I shoot, I want to be more than just another pretty face just standing there getting a picture taken. I strive to create art whether I’m working for a client or directing my portfolio shoots. For my portfolio shoots, I always aim to include a variety of different interesting elements so the viewer has a lot to digest and appreciate. It makes me proud to create content you might not see every day.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
I’ve had several people pour into me along the way. I’ve had mentoring from Dominique Carter, a great model coach here in Atlanta. She’s helped me with advice on promoting my talent and connecting me with several opportunities in my career. So she’s been a blessing. I have amazing friends who always cheer me on as well and I appreciate every one of them. Honestly, my biggest supporter is the Creator, Yah. He definitely keeps pushing me even when there’s times I feel like my talent/efforts are unnoticed or not validated. I know this passion to create is placed in me by Him.
