Today we’d like to introduce you to Juice Ross.
Hi Juice, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Born in New York, Raised in Maryland,& moved to Atlanta four years ago because of my admiration for music & entertainment; and at the time Atlanta was making its mark as a staple in the culture of entertainment. Upon arrival, I was focused on the music side of things but always could cover all areas artistically, so I was shooting all of me & my close friend’s visuals, doing our cover art, and photoshoots. Once the pandemic hit and a 9-5 couldn’t cut it anymore and I was close to losing everything, I decided to create an IG page to promote my visuals, photos, & artwork to hopefully work with some artists and gain some clientele for temporary income until I could get back on my feet, nothing permanent so I thought… two years later here we are! once I ran my first ad on Instagram my business TOOK OFF! I have literally been booked every week since… it got to the point where I had to end up officializing my business with an LLC and haven’t worked a 9-5 going on three years now.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely had to get it out of the mud! Before I started, I wasn’t in a position to not work a job, I was sleeping on my bro couch trying to figure it out, but at the same time I knew if I wanted to be successful, I couldn’t give 8 hrs of my day to someone else… even if it means hungry, sleepless nights. On top of everything else Videography is an expensive craft & business to invest in, I started off shooting & editing with an iPhone but eventually created a platform to fund some of the quality equipment I have today.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a videographer/ media creator. I specialize in music visuals, gfx design and photography for musicians.
I’m most proud of how many artists from Atlanta I’ve worked with and helped build their portfolio, be apart of their story, & watch their growth.
I think what sets me apart is my quality. 4k visuals typically require a huge budget and production team but with my on the go skills & knowledge, I am able to provide this same experience for artists who aren’t in the best situations.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Finding a mentor doesn’t have to be the typical experience you think of, all of my mentors were from the internet. Watch creators you relate to and resonate with the most, this typically leads to your desired results.
network where your clientele is ! a lot of people go to network events & pop ups which is cool but what works for me is being where my target audience is on the regular… my clientele are “rappers” so I’m going to attend things like an artist showcase, club events, you may even catch me Lenox mall giving out cards to view my work & get information on how to contact me
