Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Lynch.
Hi Kayla, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Patrick Kaymar Photography started out as a small family-run business that I assisted my dad with. We photographed in our free time or whenever we were hired. I eventually took over around 2019 and created a whole new look for the company. We went from just providing portrait services to providing everything from hair, makeup, styling, and creative directing. Today, we have a modeling team and clients along the East Coast.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There have definitely been challenges, as there are for any up-and-coming business. We struggled during the pandemic like many other small businesses did, but we were able to create new business by being outdoors with clients. We also struggled with people not understanding the business as a whole. We pride ourselves in being able to tackle any request from a client, yet some did not seem to understand our out-of-the-box style of photography. Today we are so glad to have many faithful clients and to have opportunities to create some awesome content.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
At Patrick Kaymar Photography, we specialize in tending to all different kinds of client requests. We have done everything from simple headshots all the way to full-day styled shoots. Our favorite sessions are the ones where clients say, “I have this idea…” and we get to run with it! We love getting to step out of the box from what you would see from a normal portrait company.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Networking is one of our favorite parts of this new age of social media. It is so easy now to connect with someone in a different state or even on the other side of the world. Networking can start with a simple like, follow, or comment. We have met many of our team members and clients by simply giving a follow or sending them a direct message. Then, when their followers or friends see you working together, someone else might want a piece of the action, and now you have made another connection! As for finding a mentor, we have had the amazing opportunity to mentor upcoming models in the industry. They found us by simply following us and sending a message. All the new technology might seem daunting at first, but in the end, it can be really helpful!
