Today we’d like to introduce you to Keith Elgin Douglas.
Hi Keith Elgin, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I moved to Georgia about seven years ago from the Bay Area – San Francisco – Oakland. I was very involved in the theatre scene. I worked at the smallest experimental theatres such as the EXITHEATRE to the larger theatres – The Magic Theatre and Theater on the Square. When my Mom’s health began to fail, I stopped acting and got a job with CCC Fire District in Code Enforcement. After my mom passed, my sister Mildred convinced me to move to Georgia… I asked her “What am I going to do in Georgia?” Her reply to me was “You could start acting again” It had been over 20 years since I had set foot on a stage. I said to her “I’m an old man now” she said “Fine – you’ll play old man roles” – I came to Georgia – and I am so happy and grateful I did.
I have met some of the most talented and loving people in the world here in Georgia… Even though my main focus and work as an actor had always been theatre, I was welcomed into the film scene here. I met and worked with Chris Anthony Hamilton on a couple of Projects – “Broken Branches” – which won a Best Actor for me and Best Director for Chris at the BWFN Film Festival and “Body and Son.” I met Jalen Smith @Bluejayproductions and “The Deal,” “The Heist,” “The Rennaissance Project,” “Clones” became a reality; with more on the way. Please check out our work on the Bluejayproductions on IG. as well my page on IG @keithelgindouglas. Two other independent projects have been filmed – “Forgaten,” and “Stealing Grace” by writer/Actress Candace West. “Forgaten” is a riveting drama about the lives of Black Kings and Queens in 1300 BC. and “Stealing Grace” is a time travel adventure. Both of these are directed by Jose Navarro. Jalen Smith (I call him genius) filmed the promo
I am signed with Smith Young Talent Agency. Tay Smith and Christopher Young are the best agents in the world. I can currently be seen in Episode 2 Season 1 of BMF on STARZ. Horror Noire in “Brand of Evil” on Shudder/AMC+ and Episodes 2 and 3 in DMZ on HBO/MAX. Please check these shows out. I am so grateful to have worked with directors Tasha Smith, my friend Ramin Bahrani, Director X and Mr. Ernest Dickerson; and the spectacular talents in these shows.
I love – LOVE acting!!! I am so grateful to Jesus for bringing such beautiful people into my life. I truly believe that the future holds even more opportunities to create and continue to live as an artist. Look out for the Berthan Pictures and Hussan’s Promise Productions. Thank you so much Voyager for creating this platform that spotlights creatives here in Georgia.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It’s been a good road, blessed, smooth or not. I live my passion. I have lost loved ones on this plane but still hear their songs in my heart’s ears. I had tried for so long to get an agent here – submitted to scores of agencies, nothing. I submitted to Smith Young Talent and they took me on; a true blessing because it was the Right Agency at the Best Time for me. I would say to anyone who wants to be in this business, make sure you love doing it – acting, writing, editing, directing – make sure you love it and if you do then DO IT. Be grateful you are passionate about something wonderful.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I think of myself as an actor. I love the challenge of finding myself living in the story of the writer. I don’t feel I am better in one style or type of genre when it comes to my craft. I study and practice and study and practice and practice. I am usually cast in dramatic roles, but I am equally comfortable in light comedy. I appeared onstage in “The Antipodes,” directed by Grant McGowan at Pinch N Ouch Theatre had a great time in a comedic role – and this was after the serious dramatic role in “Broken Branches” What am I most proud of? Being aware enough to know I should be grateful. What sets me apart from others? I am the only one of me – Keith Elgin Douglas and even though this sets me apart, I feel this uniqueness in all of us is what brings us together.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I love them. Yep, that’s it.
