Today we’d like to introduce you to Keith Hammond

Hi Keith, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
There are so many layers to my story considering I’m a pastor activist publish author motivational speaker and prefer to be thought of as a voice for marginalize. It probably started in college when I started the utilize my voice and didn’t realize the power of my voice until I got
older. My Sophomore year in college Let the charge to charter and NAACP Chapter at Albany State College now University. In the late 80s and early 90s many across this country where looking for social change some of the issues that face our generation ending apartheid in South Africa freeing Nelson Mandela Saving our historically black colleges and universities and energizing generation X registered to vote. So raising my voice and do what actually came natural, put me in positions to be effective and have an impact

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road definitely has some bumps in it. To quote poet Langston, Hughes poem Mother to Son ,” For me Life ain’t been no crystal stair it had tacks in it and splinters” I believe life has presented challenges to all of us . Life is also teaches valuable lessons given us test that we should become tools of growth through our matriculation through life . Part of my journey they got me to where I am now started with three dangerous encounters with God.(theophany) my first encounter happened early in college hanging out with some friends on our way to a party minding our own business I caught a stray bullet in my shoulder. I did survive and overcame the trauma of being shot. I made it through my second encounter happened when I fell asleep behind the wheel car while driving and intoxicated I split a telephone pole survived without a scratch and by the grace of God I did not get a DUI. My last family was changed. My life forever happened in 1997. I was trapped on the second floor of an apartment in the house fire, I made a promise to God that, if he would saved me, I would give my life to him. I kept my promise and here I stand! So yes there have been struggles in my life, but those incidents though traumatic help me to be an understanding and compassionate person. Also I grew realizing some years after that that I need counseling and self care because I suffered from the trauma in life which I’m grateful I was able to get help

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I Pastor New Generation Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia we meet at 1185 East Washington Street East point GA. I have been pastoring for eight years and I’ve been ministry for 22 years. I have a background in management sales and I worked in radio for five years, but I’m most proud of the work that I’ve been able to do in ministry service as a chaplain for Carver Highschool football team and working with the elementary and middle school in our area in partnership and working to bring wholeness to the community.. most proud of the work that we’ve done in response during recent protest in very hostile and tense environments I was called upon by police and elected official to help intervene along with various groups of activists . We were in the streets every day ministering listening and intervening when needed. In 2015 I published my first book “Built to Be broken” and was apart of Essence festival in 2016 with several national authors. In 2020 I was apart of a coalition and an open letter that helped the state of Georgia to elect its first Black Senator Raphael Warnock. I have had the pleasure of being interviewed on several national news networks publications and shows but the work continues aside from that we have so much work to do. I really just want to make a difference and make opportunities better for the next generation.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Definitely find a mentor that’s understand your calling or passion.
I encourage everyone to find their voice in your discipline or ministry
I also believe you must find your skin in the lane that you’re comfortable
The reason I say that is finding your voice reveals the authentic you nothing pretentious, just the genuine you. If I can explain it this way your voice is driven by your passion and your purpose and finding your skin allows you to be comfortable using your voice unapologetically that’s the advise offer to anyone starting out,
