Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Mayfield.
Hi Kelly, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Kelly Mayfield. I am a native of Atlanta, GA, APS educated and a graduate of both North Carolina A&T State University and Mercer University . I have a 24-year career in the Media Advertising industry.
I began my career in radio sales at Katz Media Group beginning at the assistant level and working my way up to Sr. Account Executive. After leaving Katz, I worked as the Senior Media Planner at IMAGES USA, a boutique multicultural advertising agency here in Atlanta. Following IMAGES USA I honed my digital skills as the Director of Sales at Briabe Mobile for the Southeast region. and then joined the Radio One family as Digital Sales Manager for Radio One Atlanta, home to the #1 Hip Hop station in the south Hot 107.9. SiriusXM Media, formally Pandora Media has been my home for the past 11 years as a Senior Sales Executive. SiriusXM affords me the opportunity to do what I love, work with great people and engage daily with my love of music.
While enjoying my career, I’ve always made pampering myself a top priority. I’ve loved getting my nails done since I was 12 years old and have been fascinated with nail art and design. I travel the world for Spas: Aswan Egypt, Zanzibar, Ghana, Mauritius, South Africa, Singapore and most recently the #1 spa in the world Mi Sol in Danang Vietnam. In recent years I have become even more focused on personal wellness and making sure I am doing all things necessary to live a healthy life. With wellness being the highest priority, it became difficult to find a nail salon that offered the type of nail care I desired. I wanted a natural nail experience in a luxury environment. In 2019 I decided that since what I wanted didn’t exist in Atlanta, I’d build it myself. I started the nail technician program at Elaine Sterling Institute to become a licensed nail tech. Then Covid took over the world. My plans were paused. I decided this was not the time to open a new business and continued to focus on my career. Comfort and stability and a little fear kept me from realizing my dream. All the while this nail spa kept pulling at me. I literally dreamed about it at night. It wouldn’t go away. In 2025 put action behind what I had been planning for years and things aligned. I found the perfect location for my luxury natural nail spa in the heart of Buckhead. After many no’s because 1. I’m a new business and 2. there is a nail salon on every corner, I finally got the YES! Purely Pampered Nail Spa is no longer my dream, it is my reality. We offer natural nail treatments in a luxury environment. No acrylics, only high quality gels and polishes. We focus on the health and well-being of our guests.
In addition to both careers, I spend time bettering the Atlanta community with a passion for serving young ladies. I am an active member of several business and civic organizations. I am financial and active with the Atlanta Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and I serve as a board member of the Atlanta Broadcasting Advertising Club where I served as co-chair of their annual holiday fundraiser. I am also a sustainer in the Junior League of Atlanta.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No it has not been a smooth road. 1. This journey began in August 2019. I completed school and passed state boards during Covid. With the uncertainty around salons, it was not the best time to open a new business. 2. I am a new business and a nail salon. I received no’s from every location I tried to rent or didn’t get call-backs at all.
While these can be viewed has struggles or hurdles, I prefer to say these no’s led me to exactly where I am supposed to be at the time I’m supposed to be here. I am thankful for every single no and couldn’t imagine Purely Pampered in any other space at any other time.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I now have 2 careers, Advertising Sales Executive and Nail Spa Owner and I love them both.
I have a 24 year career in Advertising Sales, 11 of those years with the largest Audio Music Company in the US. My career affords me the opportunity to work with amazing people and feeds my love for music while offering the flexibility and balance to fuel my passion for natural nails.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
It is an honor to be one of the fastest growing segments of women entrepreneurs. While it is work juggling a full-time career and owning a business, I am enjoying every minute. Purely Pampered Nail Spa is my dream! I work very hard to make sure that from the moment you step inside the spa you are greeted with an ambiance of calm and luxury. I believe beauty should never come at the expense of well-being, which is why our treatments are curated to improve nail health – without harsh chemicals and shortcuts.
