Rising Stars: Meet Kendall Holt of Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kendall Holt.

Hi Kendall, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Back when I was in high school I always loved doing other people’s hair. I loved their reactions when it was time for the big reveal. When senior year came around and it was time to decide what to do with the rest of my life I had no idea. My mom said to me “Well you have to do something.” So I thought to myself well you do everyone’s hair, why not just do that. So I enrolled to Minnesota School of Cosmetology in 2012 and later graduated a year later. Fast forward 12 years later here we are still doing the very same thing that I love so much and I couldn’t imagine not being able to do. I am beyond grateful what doors have opened throughout this journey. The amazing clients who have sat in my chair, the amazing coworkers that have become my second family and also having the most talented mentors in my circle. I have enjoyed seeing this industry bloom over the years. Again my name is Kendall Holt and I am a natural hairstylist at Slayology in Atlanta and I can’t wait to meet you and cater to your hair needs!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
This journey has not always been easy for me, when I decided to move to Georgia back in Oct 2020 it was in the middle of the pandemic I knew absolutely no one in this state. I have never lived anywhere else before and had no idea how I was going to get clients. When I had applied to transfer my cosmetology license back in August I was thinking that was going to be a quick process. Boy was I wrong. Nobody told me that it would take months to get it So because I did not have my license I was not able to work which you could imagine was super frustrating because this was not apart of my plan. 5 months later I finally had received my Georgia Master Cosmetologist license and I felt like a weight was lifted off my shoulders.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I have always loved styling hair. During my career I have had the opportunity to do hair for Project Runway as well as BET Gospel for Super Bowl 52. I specialize in Blowouts and Silk presses services. I have been called “The Round brush Queen!” I am known for giving women who lack volume and creating that big and bouncy blowout. I am proud of how far I have come over the years and never giving up and always betting on myself. I think what sets me apart from others is that I am always myself, I really love my job because I love making other women feeling beautiful and I will always go above and beyond for all of my clients.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson that I have learned that it is okay that you can’t do everything you have to give yourself grace.. Don’t be afraid to grow in your craft, continue to challenge yourself. Never limit yourself to what you are cable of doing because you never know, you might shock yourself in what you can do. It is okay to say you don’t know how to do certain things and always stay true to yourself.
