Rising Stars: Meet Kevin Brown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevin Brown.

Kevin, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Originally from Queens, NYC. I was raised by a single mother who worked overnight and slept during the day so, I ate. This resulted in me being overweight at a young age. At the age of 12, I was 5 ft 2in 190lbs. I discovered fitness that summer and ended up losing 20lbs in a month. That sparked my love for fitness. From there, I was an athlete in high school. (Football and Track &Field). I was known for coming to school at 5am to workout before school (made friends with the school custodians who would unlock the gym for me every morning). I would always give fitness advice at school to whoever asked. I began professionally training clients in 2016 at Crunch Fitness (Jamaica Queens). In 2017 I enlisted in the United States Air Force to work as an Electronic Warfare/Computer Technician on the E-3 Sentry AWACS. While enlisted, I became a PTL (Physical Training Leader). My responsibilities included making sure every Airman in my squadron was able to meet Air Force fitness standards and were ready to deploy at a moment’s notice. I served for four years and decided to create my business KBeFit in my last year while I was deployed to the middle east. I then decided to move to Atlanta to attend Morehouse College and begin my entrepreneurial journey. As a personal trainer, I am NASM (National Association of Sports Medicine) Certified, CPR/AED certified, I am also majoring in Kinesiology.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has been very rough. The first obstacle I faced was my environment. My mother constantly moved me around in order to put me in a better neighborhood. Each move was just a little better than the last. When you live in the ghetto as a young black boy, your mindset is being attacked on a daily basis. You’re constantly at war with complacency and negativity. I grew up with positive influences and negative influences it was a challenge to see past what was in front of me. My next challenge came when I got to collage. Initially, I went to Auburn University. My goal was to play football for them at a high level. Due to my lack of maturity, I was placed on academic suspension and had to return to NYC and attend community college. My gpa was so low that I had to take tests and classes to prove I could get into the community college. My most recent challenge has been my transition from the military. I currently juggle work full time, school full time and learning how to run my personal training business. I also have struggled with being an unknown trainer in ATL because I just moved here in June of this year.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I currently work as an Incident Analyst for a financial company called CO-OP financial. As a personal trainer, I pride myself on being a trainer whole brings a wholistic approach. I understand that most of the time when a person is out of shape and overweight, it stems from a mental battle they are dealing with. Whenever I train a client, I try to help them overcome not only the physical battle of starting your fitness journey but also try to help them realize they have to strength to conquer those mental battles that are limiting their life and potential. I am known for being a source of motivation for many people. I am most proud of helping clients realize their true potential as a person and seeing them become the best version of themselves. What sets me apart from other trainers is not only my military and athletic background but also that I care about people. I truly value every conversation and encounter I have with my clients. I make them better and they always end up making me better as well.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I’m always open to collaboration. I mainly would ask people to spread the word about me to any and everyone that would benefit from me being their personal trainer.
