Rising Stars: Meet Ki Brows

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ki Brows.

Hi Ki, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I always knew I wanted to work for myself like as a little girl it was always my dream- I just didn’t know what I wanted to do exactly? My calling with eyebrows kind of just came to me! I’ve always been real big on having my eyebrows done and them looking a particular way since I was 14 so when I started playing around with my own I was like, “Okay Ki, this might be it!” I remember going to work and randomly asking a co-worker of mine if I started doing eyebrows would she let me do them and she told me no! Lol. Not long after that, I was fired from that same job (December 29, 2017 to be exact) and I was so heartbroken! Being a mother of four kids and walking into a new year unemployed was hard for me but I told myself that going into the New Year (2018) I would invest in myself and then I came across a Microshading class in New Jersey so I stepped out on faith and flew out to learn a new craft in brows and the rest as been history…

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Honestly? Yes! As an entrepreneur (or BROWPRENUER as I would call myself), we all endure the ups and downs of business. Busy days and slow days but for the most part, I have an amazing clientele base, I am always networking with women in my field- in and outside my city, and my classes are thriving and producing brow bosses all over. I think the toughest part in my journey was when I opened my very first brow bar at the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic. It was crazy! I literally opened my doors for business on March 1st, 2020, I celebrated my birthday on March 14th and then on March 28th, I was in ICU fighting for my life with bilateral pneumonia that stemmed from complications from the COVID-19 virus. I remember laying in my hospital bed and the only thing on my mind was my four children and my new shop I had just opened! I made a promise to God that if I pulled through I would go hard with my business and Bodied Brows Studio has been a banger to the beauty and professional brow industry ever since.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a professional eyebrow stylist, educator and licensed esthetician from Indianapolis, Indiana. I currently own a brow bar in Downtown Indianapolis and I am opening my second location in Houston, Texas in June. My most popular service that I am most known for is Ombré Brow Wax & Tint, I think that is my most sought out service and technique to train students due to my precision with hair removal, natural tinting application and the shaping of each clients’ brows. I also offer brow services such as threading, brow lamination and Microshading (tattoo brows). I am most proud of not only my work but the way I am able to teach my skill to others and actually see them flourish into brow bosses of their own. What sets me apart from other brow artists is my creativity that’s implemented in my craft. Every client is different but the artistry of how I am able to design the perfect set of eyebrows regardless of the client’s brow condition, ethnicity, or facial structure is top tier. I would call myself a perfectionist at eyebrows, it may seem easy as pie but it’s not! It definitely takes consistency, but discovering your creativity in it is key!

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson that I have learned along my journey is to keep going! I think everyone goes through these moments where business is slow or where you get discouraged or confused on your next move and want to give up but I have learned that you cannot do that. God gives us all a gift and it’s up to us to find it, He never told us it would be easy to do but it’s possible! Another important lesson that I’ve learned is the importance of setting boundaries for myself and for my business. Also, all money ain’t good money! Lol
