Rising Stars: Meet King C’Wavii

Today we’d like to introduce you to King C’Wavii.

Hi King, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Chris Campbell originally from Athens, Georgia. I lived in a neighborhood named Pauldoe in 2009 before they knocked the neighborhood down. My mom bought an old box screen computer for me my three brothers, one sister to study schoolwork on & use for other internet purposes. During this time period, I was in high school named Clarke central high. I had three friends I used to hang with & we all had different styles. I loved skateboarding, two friends loved dancing & one could freestyle really good. I told my friend who could freestyle really good to come over after school & we could work on music. I googled on the old box screen computer free music recording programs & mix craft popped up. My mother was kind enough to purchase me a microphone from the music store & I hung the microphone from the ceiling fan in my room which we recorded from. We told our other friends then we created this group called Lenox boys. We gained a little popularity in high school from creating music. We gained more friends that also wanted to record with us sometimes. At the time, I called myself Kid Cooly. We all graduated high school in 2013. Fast forward to 2016 after getting jobs & trying to figure out life all of us departed from each other. One day I ran into one of my old friends & we linked up one day to talk about music.

At the time of recording, youtube videos was popular. I was watching this youtuber named DDG shoutout to him he gave me an idea which I talked to my friend about. I told him I know how to gain us more views & ways to get our music out there by recording YouTube videos and using our music for intros & background music in the videos we would create. I called myself classic city Chris in this time period of 2016. One day we created a smash or pass video on my YouTube channel and it gained a lot of views and subscribers to my channel. We ended up beefing after that & I kept creating videos on my own. I reacted to a DDG song and after that artist was hitting me up on Instagram asking to react to their song. The name classic city Chris was getting old to me and made me feel old fashion so I created a new name King C’Wavii. The C represents my first name Chris & wavii comes from my style of fashion and being unique from others with my style of hip hop I’d create. From that point forward, my Instagram gained a lot of followers due to a lot of underground artists wanted promo for their music. I’d like to thank DDG for giving me the idea & my mother for always supporting me with what I needed to be an artist. Here I am today with 20k followers on IG & still creating reaction videos.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
One of the biggest struggles I had on the way was this one incident that happened in 2019. One morning I was standing in my front yard and I had a gut feeling to go in the house. I ignored the gut feeling and stayed outside. 15 minutes later, the police rolled around the block and was headed my way. At that point, I thought to myself let’s go in now. He speeded up his cop car and said on his cop car speaker “HEY STOP RIGHT THERE“. I kept walking because I didn’t do anything but listen to music & use hashtag sub for sub to grow my subscribers and followers. Moments later, he drove faster and slammed on breaks hop out the car ran into me by the time I got to the door, I was slammed on the ground. Next day I was accused of “Armed robbery of a 17 years old boy. I spent three months in jail & month on house arrest. They found the people who actually committed the crime and let me out on a OR Bond. My name and face is still all over the internet. I was on fox5 news and front-page newspaper. This is the worst thing ever happen to me but also a blessing because when I got out of jail, I was able to purchase a nicer camera for my YouTube channel and I got closer to god while being locked up.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I create vlogs, YouTube reaction videos for upcoming artists & make music. I am proud to graduate from high school and still be able to continue chasing my dreams after being accused of armed robbery and thinking I’d be locked up for ten years plus. What sets me apart from others is my unique style of music & the way I choose to fashion my clothes.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I had interests in skateboarding, riding dirt bikes, mini motorcycles, basketball, flag football & trampolines. My personality is fun outgoing country/city boy. I wasn’t mean but I was from the hood so I wasn’t afraid to be a bad boy.
