Rising Stars: Meet Landon Sims

Hi Landon, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started in restaurants after graduating from high school in 2010. I started in the industry as a food expo/server at a nightclub. From that moment, I fell in love in the hospitality industry. From then on I’ve learned how to bartend and cook and in my free time, I started crafting my skills in making cocktails and dishes. I’ve had always been intrigued in health issues in the black community. So from there, I started pairing food knowledge and ways to heal the black community with flavorful foods and cocktails that help aid with different ailments in my community. I started small with getting my family and friends to try my recipes and they loved it.

While still being in the hospitality industry, I entered numerous cocktail and food competitions to bring awareness to what I was trying to create not only for myself but my people as well. So from that moment on I started Greentongue foods. Greentongue foods is food simply catered for private dinners, meal prep, catering and mixology. Our notion is simple for our community to educate and give people great healthy food and awesome crafted cocktails to the black and brown community. We are a delivery service that comes to you and fill all of the guest’s needs. Since then, I’ve partnered with several different liquor vendors to help reach my goal. While growing up I watched my grandmother and mom open their home to strangers and giving them food and shelter to help people just like us. My sole purpose is to help my community in any way that I can through food, cocktails, and video tutorials.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has definitely been a rocky road trying to bring awareness to what Greentongue foods does for its community. There are ups and downs with trying to be more aware and bring more volume in my community and being consistent with my recipes and cocktails. Finding a good customer base has been my biggest upset.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Greentongue Foods specializes in crafted Cocktails and clean food for the soul. I primarily know for the syrups and bitters that are handmade and crafted by myself. My speciality is making good food with a twist. Good food that help aid in the D.N.A of black and brown people to keep them healthy.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
My family, my friends and my community. Black people are uneducated when it comes to health and ailments. My goals are to reach out to more people and help educate them on eating clean for there souls from a genetic standpoint. Greentongue Food’s soul mission is to let our community know that e can still have a good time and eat great clean food.
