Rising Stars: Meet Latrell James

Today we’d like to introduce you to Latrell James.

Hi Latrell, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I probably wrote my first rap and made my first bet in middle school. A homie of mine showed me an FL Studio and I was set on creating my own world ever since. Most of my life, I have been making music. Working and honing my craft until I felt I was proud of it enough to show people. Being an artist that can produce as well, I feel I have more control over what my overall sound sounds like. Right now, I’m just looking to grow from project to project and connect more with my supporters.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’ve been making music for 15 years, things are just starting to click. There is so many highs and lows, from doing 2 Cheerio commercials producing for others and myself. While I’m grateful for all the things I’ve done and am doing, I know I am capable of more. Boston is not a major market but with the internet, you can make noise anywhere. Of course, there is a struggle, but It’s not an excuse to grow where I come from.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a rapper and producer out of Massachusetts. I double as a songwriter as well but the overall goal is to give people sounds that they can be comfortable and uncomfortable at the same time. People know me for a plethora of things but mostly my work with Dreamville and the Cheerio’s campaign. My most proud moment would be maintaining not working a job that I don’t want for the last 4 years.
