Today we’d like to introduce you to Leah Gordone.
Hi Leah, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Absolutely! My journey began with a deep passion for storytelling and a desire to amplify voices that often go unheard. I started creating content on YouTube as a way to share news, culture, and commentary from a Black woman’s perspective. What began as a small channel quickly grew into a vibrant community of viewers who resonated with my authenticity and commitment to truth.
Over time, I expanded my platform to include interviews, social commentary, and collaborations with other creators and changemakers. My goal has always been to inform, inspire, and empower. Through consistency, faith, and a lot of learning along the way, I’ve been able to build a brand that not only entertains but also educates and uplifts.
Today, I’m proud to be a voice in the digital space that champions representation, justice, and community. And I’m just getting started.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Not at all—it’s been a journey filled with both triumphs and trials. Like many creators, I started with limited resources and had to learn everything from video editing to audience engagement on my own. There were moments of self-doubt, especially when growth was slow or when I faced criticism online. Navigating the digital space as a Black woman also came with its own set of challenges, from combating stereotypes to ensuring my voice was heard and respected.
One of the biggest hurdles was staying consistent and motivated, especially when the results didn’t immediately reflect the effort I was putting in. But those struggles taught me resilience. They pushed me to refine my craft, stay true to my purpose, and build a community that values authenticity and truth.
Every setback became a setup for a comeback, and I’m grateful for the lessons learned along the way.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a digital storyteller and the creator of True Crime with Leah Gordone formerly Black Girl News, a platform dedicated to exploring real-life cases with empathy, depth, and cultural awareness. Through my YouTube channel and social media, I specialize in true crime storytelling that centers on justice, awareness, and the human stories behind the headlines.
What I’m most proud of is building a space where viewers not only learn about cases but also feel connected to the people involved. My content goes beyond the surface—I research thoroughly, present facts responsibly, and always aim to honor the lives and communities impacted by crime.
What truly sets True Crime with Leah Gordone apart is the way I approach storytelling—with empathy, cultural awareness, and journalistic integrity. I don’t just report on cases; I humanize them, ensuring that the victims and their families are treated with the dignity they deserve. My background in journalism allows me to present well-researched, fact-checked content without sensationalism, while my culturally conscious lens brings attention to stories and communities that are often overlooked.
I also foster a strong sense of community by engaging directly with my audience, encouraging thoughtful dialogue and collective awareness. My voice is both professional and relatable, and I use my platform not only to inform but to advocate for justice and amplify underrepresented narratives.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memory is the day I met my biological mother and, shortly after, moved in with her at the age of seven. It was a moment that changed everything. I remember feeling a mix of excitement, nervousness, and curiosity. Meeting her felt like finding a missing piece of myself. There was this instant connection, like my heart recognized her even before my mind could fully process it.
Moving in with her was the beginning of a new chapter—one filled with love, learning, and healing. It wasn’t always easy, but it was real. That experience shaped so much of who I am today and taught me the power of a loving family, resilience, and second chances.
