Today we’d like to introduce you to Leilani Sims Guillory.
Hi Leilani, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started my clothing line in 2020, my current focus is mainly on hats and custom products by request. I have made custom bags, hoodies, and tees and also have my brand on my website I am currently rebranding and excited about the next few products releasing. They will be dropping in Feb 2023.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It has been smooth, but like any artist, I don’t just focus on one craft. Creating and being open to trying new things and new projects sometimes has led me to have 10 different things going at once. so some of the struggles have been finishing up one project before starting another or getting sidetracked when I have new ideas or designs. The biggest challenge for me is marketing myself. Trying to stay consistent on social media platforms and learning when to post, what to post and keep it creative. I have been pretty lucky to have a lot of my friends help by posting and tagging my brand to help get more views.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am known for my brand Thuglifeandbabyhair, and it is custom clothing and snapback hats. I also make beats and write music/ poetry. My current focus outside my clothing line and music is home projects and /or home remodel.
I am most proud of the current home remodeling projects I am working on. I built a pool earlier this summer. I did this just to show that no matter how small the space, or even if its a rental you can still enjoy where you live. The goal is to be able to enjoy where you currently are while you are working to get where you want to be.
What sets me apart is that I don’t look at these jobs as work. I look at it as art or transformation. I also am able to help the client see several different ways of going about what they want done.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Actually, with it being so easy to create your brand and or sell your own clothing/accessories, I see more people just trying to create, Most times people start creating products that they looked for and needed and possibly couldn’t find. Some people start business ideas because of something they wanted. People begin selling services that they just happened to be good at. I work full time but ultimately, the goal is to work for yourself.
As far as remodeling, I actually love how many people decide to diy things. This new generation likes to do things themselves. So if they can watch a youtube video and save half the money, they will. I think a lot of the smaller home projects or home upgrades will be done by small businesses and not large companies that tend to charge so much. Flooring, painting, tile is all very well known now, home styles change a lot so there will always be work to be done. What’s hot this year will look dated in five years.
