Rising Stars: Meet Leonard Robinson of McDonough

Today we’d like to introduce you to Leonard Robinson.

Hi Leonard, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
“My journey began as a part-owner of an IT company, where I quickly learned the importance of community connections and strategic partnerships. That led me to get involved with the Chamber as an ambassador, where I found the real purpose in helping local businesses thrive. When the previous Membership Director transitioned out, he personally recommended me as his successor—recognizing both my passion for people and my ability to build meaningful business relationships.”

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not entirely smooth—but rewarding. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that a chamber of commerce is only as strong as the members it serves and the members who choose to serve it. I feel incredibly fortunate—I hit the Chamber lottery by landing on such an amazing team.
That said, my first year felt a bit like drinking from a fire hose—fast, intense, and a constant learning curve. In year two, it’s still a fire hose, but now I’ve learned how to hold it with both hands and lean on the strength of the team around me. We support one another, and that has made all the difference.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As the Director of Membership for the Henry County Chamber of Commerce, I specialize in building connections that matter. My role blends relationship-building, strategic planning, and community engagement. I oversee member recruitment and retention, coordinate key events like ribbon cuttings and orientations, and lead several initiatives—from our Emerging Business Leaders Program to the Veterans Entrepreneurial Group.
I’m known for bringing energy, creativity, and a people-first approach to everything I do. I don’t just see a member as a name on a roster—I see them as a partner in shaping a thriving business community.
What I’m most proud of is creating programs that help people feel seen, supported, and set up for success. Whether it’s helping a small business owner gain visibility or connecting a young professional to their first mentor, those wins are what drive me.
What sets me apart is my background in sales and leadership, combined with my natural ability to connect. I bring a coach’s mindset, a servant-leader’s heart, and just enough humor to keep the energy high—because business should feel like possibility, not pressure.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Most people who know me through my work see the high-energy, always-on-the-go connector—but what they might not know is that I’m a huge fan of Animal Planet and nature documentaries. Give me a good David Attenborough narration, and I’m completely locked in. There’s something about the order, instinct, and resilience of the natural world that inspires me—it reminds me that leadership, like nature, is all about balance, adaptation, and sometimes… just keeping calm when the lions are circling!
