Today we’d like to introduce you to Matt Wilkey.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
So I started getting into photography when I was 14 with a Nikon D3000 my parents cited me with for Christmas. I started asking friends to let me take pictures of them and really started to love it a lot. By the time I was 18 and graduating high school I completely gave up on photography due to not really believing in myself and comparing myself to others too much. By the time I was 21, I had started photography up again taking photos of my soon to be fiancé. After a year of taking portraits with him, I started second shooting for weddings. I found a new love in photographing weddings and telling couples stories. I am now 25 & have shot about 100 weddings. Wedding photography is the love I finally found. Nothing is better than creating around two people who are in love. We love love!!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Just believing in yourself & investing in yourself were the main things for me. I had to stop comparing myself to other creatives and just simply create. It’s all about putting out more & taking in less.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a Photographer. A wedding/elopement/couples/family Photographer to be exact. My goal for every photo is to just tell a story and to make you feel something. When you look back on photos, you want to feel like your there in the moment it was taken. I want to create that cozy, in the moment, nostalgic feeling you always have to look back on.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I always want to stay creative & timeless. In the upcoming years, I would love to just be traveling more & doing what I love. Possibly relocate to another state as well eventually.
