Rising Stars: Meet Matthew Fuller

Today we’d like to introduce you to Matthew Fuller.

Hi Matthew, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Well… Where do I begin? I was born and raised in Fort Pierce, Florida. I’m the eldest of my mother’s three sons. I pretty much have been serving in ministry all of my life but it really became my passion at the age of 16, a year after he received Jesus Christ. I was raised in the African Methodist Episcopal Church from birth and served in youth ministry and music ministry. But, at the age of 16, I had an encounter with the Lord that led to a hunger that the church that I was raised in could not satisfy. So with the permission of my grandparents and my mother, I sought out a church that could teach me what I had been experiencing and even seeing in my dreams. Some place that could help me make sense with what I felt in my heart was the call of God for my life.

I would then, unknowingly, stumble across this passion for Worship Ministry when I started singing at my new church on the youth praise team. From that point, I began to receive training and had the opportunity to sit under the tutelage of many powerful men and women of God such as Sunday Best Finalist, the late Dr. Dontavies Boatwright, Lewis Hinton Jr. and Pastor Dr. Beverly H. Hinton. They taught me the importance of pursuing righteousness and living a consecrated life. I served faithfully and diligently under Dr. Beverly H. Hinton until I moved to Jacksonville for college. After a few years there, I found and submitted my under the wisdom of my Spiritual Mother, Pastor Tonya S. Hall, at Victory Way Christian Center.

After serving faithfully in the ministry, I was elevated to Worship Director at VWCC and also began to travel with Pastor Tonya S. Hall where I received training in the work of the ministry. It was also in Jacksonville where I had the delightful pleasure of meeting my beautiful wife, Jasmine Chantelle. We moved to Atlanta at the end of 2018 and I went on a significant hiatus from ministry starting in 2019 when the Lord told me not to accept any more engagements. Which was a shock to me because I felt as though my ministry was just getting ready to take off. But, I found out later that His plan for me was to focus on building my life as a husband. My wife and I joined an amazing ministry here named Embassy City under the leadership of Apostle Bryan Meadows, where we serve as licensed ministers, Leads of the Marriage Ministry and in the worship and art department with Embassy Worship.

It was here that the Lord began to cultivate more and fine-tune my gifts and in April of this year, I released my first single, titled “Hear My Song”. My heart and passion is to bring a greater awareness to the significance of the presence of God and raising up a new generation of worship gifts that know how to skillfully host God’s presence, WHEREVER they are.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I can’t necessarily say that it’s always been a smooth road. There were definitely a lot of struggles along the way, From childhood abuse to immature decisions that led to financial hardship as an adult. But I would like to believe that all of it is working together for my good. I’m stronger than I’ve ever been. And now I see Favor and Success in every area of my life.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Well for majority of my life, I’ve been known as a Worship Leader but I’m stepping into this new space as a Worship Artist. I guess I would say my specialty would be getting into the Flow of the prophetic during worship and allow Holy Spirit to take the lead. I like to think that I’m a better Worship “Follower” than a worship leader. Paul said it best when he said, “Follow me as I follow Christ”. What sets me apart from others is that my gift of worship leading is solely based on the following of the leading of the Holy Spirit. That’s what makes me different. It’s not just about leading a song but about hosting the presence of God through song.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Absolutely. Unfortunately, I have friends and relatives that loss someone dear to them unexpectedly. And this taught me that there is no time like the presence. I had allowed fear of failure and the opinion of men to hinder my productivity. While I was still being creative, I was Hoarding all of my creativity in fear that it wouldn’t be received. “Hear My Song” broke that glass ceiling for me and from here on out, it’s ALL gas NO brakes!! All of that hoarding has set up me to have more than enough to release so get ready world!!!
